New guy
Hi, My name is Chris and I'm new to this forum. I am onto my third Nissan Terrano 3.0L SVE 2003 version and it'd great for pulling my caravan. I'm having a bit of an issue with power through at the moment. It seems like one minute the power is there and then it's not when under load going up a hill or generally even on the flat. I have had a new fuel pump fitted at a Nissan dealership last week as this packed up but to be honest I was having this intermittent power loss issue before then. The fuel lines were corroded so I had some flexible ones fitted and was wondering whether I was getting air in the system which could be causing the power issue and maybe knackered the fuel pump over time? The other thing I was thinking about is the vacuum pipes? One of them has a filter which could probably do with changing and they all look perished. Maybe this is causing the intermittant power if the turbo wastegate is not operating properly? I have checked the intercooler hoses and all of the clamps are tight. Has anyone else had this type of problem and could recommend a potential fix? The last thing I was thinking about was a MAFF sensor but not sure of that could cause the intermittent higher rev powerloss, which is especially flat in third. I guess I'll maybe start with the vac pipes and replace the filter black hoses with clear ones to see if there's any air perhaps?

Welcome mate
I can help you with the filter hoses mate, I've been flogging clear ones cut to size for a few quid including postage, when replaced and engine running you should be able to see air bubbles if you have a problem tank/pipes side I can't remember if the 3.0 litre has a banjo filter or not for the IP, I know there has been some discussion around this before but can't remember anyone coming up with a definitive yes or no. Don't waste money on the MAF just yet mate, if it's Bosch, leave it alone, they are self cleaning and if touched WILL break!!!! If it's the Hitachi, you can have a go at cleaning it with the Workshop download I created http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/d...kshop/wk48.pdf

Howdy mate and welcome to the friendliest forum on the net!! Plenty of us loving the terranos
Be careful of main stealer prices, I mean er.. Dealer prices (by the way I work at a dealer) Can you describe of remember when the first sign of this power loss ame about and under what circumstances? Temperature, weather, coughing? Revs limited? Engine light? |

Hi mate, no engine lights of anything like that. Just stuttering at higher revs and no power and then all of a sudden loads of power. It does it at all temperatures and it does get hot over here in Spain in the day and pretty cold at night in the winter. There's no white, blue or black smoke or anything coming out of the exhaust either. Just the sluggish intermittent power.

Can't remember what kind of MAF is in the 3.0 but assuming it's the same one as in the Trols (same 3.0 engine) you can DEFINITELY take it out and clean it as I've done mine and a lot of the Aussies do it too.
Really simple to do too - just get some electrical contact cleaner, remove MAF (without touching the sensor part), spray with cleaner, give it a second to dry then reinstall Welcome by the way! |

Hi mate, I don't think the 3.0l has a banjo filter. About six months ago I had the leaky fuel flow and return lines pieced with flexible hose in a garage and I am suspicious of the repair to be honest. I will get under it tomorrow and check for any signs of staining. I would be very interested in a set of the clear fuel lines for the filer to see of there is air in the system. I'm working in Spain at the moment so the postage would be a bit more but I would appreciate if you send them out here? It was never the same since those fuel lines started leaking.

Hi Banshee, Could you please send some clear hoses to me if I give you the lengths? I can pay you via paypal if that is okay?
Thanks Chris |
