Damn CB Radio
I have posted this on the FB group as well...
Just where the heck can I fit a CB radio in my 2001 T2? I already have an Alinco Amateur radio in the cubby hole in front of the auto lever. Obvious place is on the top of the dash over the center air vents, but I don't want it on show. All other places, sides of center console, glove box door, under/beside steering seem too small/curved. Think I had more options in my old car. Can't get a CB small enough to go where the ash tray out is (don't want to cut that about), between seats and center console too narrow, behind the center console at the rear is a maybe, but I would have to keep looking round to see it. Any ideas? Pictures if possible please... |

Some cb's have all the controls and a display on the hand mike, so the box could be under the seat, if the cable was long enough.
These tend to be expensive. Standard CB Be careful placing the cb radio, imagine now if there was an accident, where would the cb be? what part of you could hit it? Then think is this where you want it to be. Mine is in the cubby hole, but I had to cut the bottom out so it went deeper in. I think your ash tray option might be the way forward, if there is enough room behind it.

If you're after a small CB I know a guy with a baby Midland for sale, UK 40 with a mic, it's about the same size as a 3 1/2" Desktop PC Hard Drive

Don't think the glass sunroof would like it
Started off thinking small, but would go DIN if I can get a pod for the dash top. I am looking for a new type AM/FM multi CB's, one of these... http://www.team-electronic.de/index1.htm http://www.team-electronic.de/index1.htm http://www.team-electronic.de/index1.htm - this is the DIN fitting one. |

The ash tray option is a no go as there seems to be an electrical control box behind it. I was thinking that in the 70s/80s you could get a DIN plastic box for the 'new' type of radios that you could fit under or on top of the dash. Although I don't like it too much, maybe if I can get one of these DIN boxes, I could mount it on top of the dash above the center air vents, should conceal to a point and be out of the way in the event of an accident

Are you buying a new CB or trying to fit a existing CB you already have?

In case you smash into it when you fly through the air, head, legs etc.
Fez - going to go new now... as I said need DIN if I can get a pod for the dash. Can't really see where I can fit even a small one other that the dash top or rear of center console behind the lift top box. |

Plenty of room between the sunroof switches and the screen. Take off the cover behind the switches and you'll see up there a metal subframe. you can fix onto that and run your cables behind the roof liner. Simples

I manage to find things on this site easily too, using the search facility, but the first few times I tried... I gave up.
Searching ebay is keeping the word count small enough to get hits, but big enough to limit the number of returns. This site is all about helping each other, it didn't take long.

Velcro hooks grip really well to the carpet and roof. You could use that to hold it in place.
On my T2, I went for the remote Mic approach so the CB box is hidden up under the dash, and just the Mic is in show. sent from my phone, sorry for any typo's. |
