garage closing
So the garage at the end of our work mews has closed, they have just been clearing out everything!!! Unfortunately I missed most of the goodies, but managed to score myself 2 heavy duty axle stands and what I thought was a good big breaker bar, unfortunately the end of the breaker bar is broken, one of the techs tells me just to replace the end bit as it is removable with an allen key?
cheaper to buy a new bar or what? |

i just replace my end as i was advised that the make of my bar was the weak point cost me 15 quid had the bar for 25 years and this was the first time it broke but it does suffer a lot of abuse

You should check for old grease tubes, oils, nuts and bolts too. I love mooching around in old units, it's amazing what's left in the "rubbish"

Yeh as rambolane says you should be able to replace the end. Whether it's cheaper than a new bar or not, I don't know but imagine it'll depend on the make of the existing bar and the quality of any replacement bar
Would be VERY surprised if it's cheaper to buy a whole new bar though! |

Defo cheaper, its a 1/2" bar, chrome vandium something errudder..
seems to be about £3.99 for the end |

Chrome vanadium isn't a brand bud it's just the type of steel alloy used to make the bar.
If there's not a brand name stamped on it you probably need to measure the pin size and width of the gap in the knuckle joint as I don't know how standard the replacement ends are (I would imagine there will be some variance between the brands). You'll need to check out the pin as well as these aren't removable on some older or cheaper bars. If you can't get/fit a replacement end, by a new bar as breaker bars are very handy to have and not that expensive for a new one anyway (assuming you've picked up the axle stands with the intention of starting to do some more stuff on the truck yourself). Funnily enough I only just bought a 1/2" breaker bar recently - up until now I've been using a 3/4" bar with an impact socket reducer on the end to bring it down to 1/2" but unfortunately the reducer makes the end a bit too bulky for some applications |
