road tax changes
from oct 1st 2014 , you do not need to display a tax disc on your vehicle .....the paper tax disc will be abolished on that date .

I believe you cannot also sell the car with tax.
seller will have to cash the tax back and owner will have to re-tax it. So if sold mid month the gov will effectively get a extra 1 month payment! |

Win Win VEL duty
Always seems unfair that if you tax a used car in the last few days of the month you have to pay for the whole month unless of course if you are buying a brand new car in which case you can buy extra weeks.
They always seem to discrimante against those of us who buy used or have less money . I suspect the new rules are to help reduce those who drive with no insurance and to keep DVLA ownership record up to date. In reality of course the law will be enforced against those of us doing our best to comply with the rules and those who flout the rules will continue to get away with it. |

Well the tax disc being scrapped dosen't bother me one bit as i've always hated having one stuck on my screen Don't know about the rest of the country but around here they are putting loads of ANPR cameras up which will prob be to catch the untaxed & uninsured motors well hopefully

ANPR flawed
Quote:
Sending a photo in the post with a notice to prosecute only works if you have registered the vehicle with your current address something criminals avoid. Those who wish to break the law will pay for the car in cash either privately or at the auctions using a false name and then clone a similar model and put it on the false plates. Other scams include registering it in the name of a recently deceased person whose house is up for sale and then collect documents by various means when the new V5 is sent out so they can sell it on later. A friend of mine fell foul of this when he moved from Wales to the Ripley Area and someone used his identity to register the motor a couple of years later. He ended up having to drive to a Welsh Court to answer the summons and fortunately was able to prove he was at work in Derbyshire when the alleged speeding took place. He tried and failed to get the Police to investigate his allegation until after his court appearance and aquital. Needless to say he never heard if anyone was later caught. Despite the vehicle having a PNC notice of Interest placed on it by the police it did not stop a load of other summonses being issued by different court areas. He had to resort to an official complaint against the Welsh Police for it to be stopped. |

Didnt think it was going to work on monthly basis as i understood it would be a case of informing dvla of the change of vehicle and the direct debit would be adjusted accordingly though i may be wrong
