Snorkel
Someone on here asked me how my snorkel performed on my off road motor and I forget who it was, so yes it works well but it is a bit vulnerable to trees/heavy branches and yes it does make a fair bit of intake noise, not bad with the window shut but as we drive with the windows open most of the time (these are the route out if it rolls)it is noticeable, it is small at 2.5 inches but for an off road motor that does not really work hard it is fine, if however it was a road going motor then it would struggle at motorway speeds, Rick

So whats the best way to do a drainpipe snorkel for intake purposes?
I do motorway work too? And can rain not get in? |

Mine is only 3", Rick, and it seems fine on the road, even towing the caravan, so I would have thought that at 2.5", it would not be that bad. I was amazed at how small the air intake hole under the wing was, when I removed it.
Like you say, it is a noisy with the window open though. |

Rain will only get in if you leave it open upright, so just put a bend on the top simples, as for the route of the pipe just chose what suits you, Rick

Here is the thread I did on mine, not quite drain pipe, but the principle is the same...
http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/f...ad.php?t=20687 Do a search on Snorkel, there are a lot of threads on it, and the water question has been asked and explained several times... basically, the airbox, has a small drain grommet in the bottom, so a bit of water is not going to be a problem. Besides, in my days of driving Classic Cars, there was a kit you could buy that deliberately sprayed a mist of water into the air intake, as it helped with combustion, and stopped the build up of coke, so the odd rain drop is not going to do any harm. |
