Wiper Arm/Motor issue & Steering Wheel.

Hi

I have just purchase a 1997 Maverick TD LWB to tow a boat. It's in quite good running order apart from some cosmetic issues.

The main problems I have are the wiper arms fixing point to the motor ie the nut holding them on seem to be rubbing on the bonnet edge. There doesn't seem to be any crash damage and the bonnet is adjusted correctly but the bolt fixing seems be able to be pushed back away from the bonnet to the screen.

COuld this be a replacement wiper motor or is there something else that can be done.

I tried undoing the bolt/push it upwards and tightening put it just comes back. I then looked at removing the plastic bulk head cover below the winscreen but didn't have long to look at it before darkness.

I assume is the screws on the top, un pop the rubber strip uinder bonnet and undo the wiper arm bots and take off arms? I suppose then I can look at the motors.

Also It appears that Mav runs straight not tracking problems but the steering wheel is not straight, I assume a garage would be the best bet as they have the tools to remove etc..

Hi, and welcome to the club.

The plastic trim for the access to the wipers is as you have sussed already.

There is one motor, so it's worth looking at the linkages for wear.

While you have the cover off, have a look on the nearside under the cover, there is a plate, which the lower screw becomes loose and lets water in, which drips onto the carpet in the nearside foot well, so while you have access, remove this plate, and use a non setting sealant, like frame sealant, and also cover the lower screw head,

This will solve a problem before it happens.

All this advice for free....

You will find though that paying for the membership, allows you access to all sorts of data. Service manuals etc etc.

I have fixed problems I never knew I had, and that is why I can run an 18 year old Maverick. Oh and it passed it's MOT yesterday too, without any advisories.
