Smile What patrol to get?

Hi there folks,
Lookin in2 buying a patrol, have a budget of around £3,000 any ideas what i should get/Avoid? i have quite a large family, and tow a livestock trailer often. Can you run on Veg oil? mpg?
Sorry for all the questions trying to do some homework before i buy was also lookin at the toyota 4runner/landcruiser as i have run my trusty mk3 hilux for the last 6 years with no problem, just a bit underpowered and not that tidy anymore!!!

hmmm tricky one to call. I personally like to bomb proof simplicity of the 4.2 diesel Y60 but the 4.2 turbo diesel Landcruiser is awesome for a road based truck with creature comforts. You might just get one at 3k
The newer patrol 2.8 td Y61 are pretty good and cheaper than Landcruiser.

Agree from what I've seen and read

A mint y60 gq swb 4.2

Or a swb y61 2.8 but look hard for rot

Avoid y61 3.0 tho

it was when first introduced, from 2000, though was better from 2004 when
it was also introduced to the terrano2.

have a look in patrol section, you'll find my sorry story.....

early ones prone to cracked pistons, ended up with a rebuild, after went
in for a head gasket failure.

also prone to turbo boost issues, to many sensors to go wrong.

though when good very good, just a jekyl hyde motor.

harder to work on than 2.7tdi.

pretty sure it cant do veggie either.

Y60 4.2 doesn't do miles to the gallon well about 22-25 at best, but it does run on any old veg oil
Sorry no idea about the others
