Electric shower cutting out

thought id ask as ive been very pleased with the other non vehicle related questions & answers here

basically, this problem has gone on over a year now, when the counsel fitted new bathrooms back in early 2011 we got new showers too, but in late 2011, it started randomly cutting out, tripping the breaker on the fuse board randomly

some times when you flick the trip switch it would come back on but other times the trip switch just fires off again, we spoke to the counsel and they actually hot glued the switch in the on position

anyways that sorted it, then about 2 months later the counsel came back and replaced the shower and trip switch, but the new shower still trips the switch if you have the temp over a certain setting, it seems to be ok now but will still trip say once every 2 months

any ideas?

Maybe fuse not rated to shower? but a good sparki should know what to do.
If council fitted it get them back

yes, i don't even think the guys who did it were qualified, as it was bodged like with the hot glue

ffs I hope you still got the earth bonding in place . GLUE BREAKER

sue the sods.
They have to be qualified to do operate a glue gun

yes everything's earthed, no thought for safety

IS IT THE MCB THAT TRIPS OR THE RCBO ( RCD/MCB COMBIND )

DO YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH WATER PRESSURE

Bit confused here 96 as all the MCB's that I can think of cannot be held in the on position, whilst you can hold the external lever "up" the internals will still trip out, then when the lever is lowered again it clicks onto the internals again so that it can be reset, the only one that could be glued on that I can recall is the early Wylex with two push buttons, (one small to test and one large to reset) I guess the large one could be glued in? Rick

often when people upgrade their electric showers they fit a more powerful one to get more hot water, but then the cable and circuit breaker are the wrong size. You really should get on to yhe council and have it checked ASP tell them this is a safety issue, could cause a fire. Dont forget you pay the rent, or your Pa does.

It could be the water flow is to low and when you try to over heat the water, it cuts out, but sounds more like you have an electrical fault.
I wouldn't let those council tossers near my house, glueing the breaker in the on position

no, problem is this is a council house, so there's nowt we can do, i wouldn't go about gluing breakers, i'd find the fault

i disagree totally ..... of course theres something you can do about it , complain , or ask a qualified electrician to provide a report and test of your house electrics ,tell the council you have serious doubts about your safety and your house electrics ..... dont pussyfoot about
