Default Advice please on Home insurance and contents cover.

Just received a renewal quote from a company that have a "Red Telephone" as their mascot.

I did a comparison using a well known site that has an annoying singing man, the quote was nearly a third of my " Automatic Renewal" quoted price from the red phone company.

A telephone call to my present supplier and the price dropped to 2/3 of the original price... with no argument. (Spoke to their "loyalty department", ) So worth challenging anyway.

I have re-looked at the internet insurance and I got a direct quote from Esure this is 1/3 of the original price with the same cover for buildings and contents.

Question.Do I stay with the original company at 2/3 of the price?
Move to esure for 1/3 of the price?

Any problems with using esure, as we have never made a claim on home insurance, and insurance is only good value if they handle the claim well.

We have been with the red phone company for 10 years with no claim so far.

Advice please.

Opportunity to save some money so can't ignore it.

Best regards,
Rustic

Always worth shopping around, I had the renewal notice for my car insurance with RIAS last week, £258, fully comp, 9+ years ncb for a Honda Jazz 1.4 Sport. Did a search on Moneysupermarket.com, Churchill £196 and a company called Choicequote (part of Carol Nash group) £184, and that included protected ncb, courtesy car and legal assistance. Went back to RIAS, asked if they would match it, flat refusal - renewal cost non-negotiable - Goodbye RIAS!

its a tricky one. RedPhone are pretty good to be fair, in terms of claims pay outs and flexibility. Im with them at the moment for both my cars, I wouldnt say they are the cheapest, but they certainly arent the most expensive. Im wary of smaller companies with cheap quotes, so just do a quick research to find out if they have a good pay out history.

Any problems with using esure,
Whatever you do not insure with Esure, they are an absolute pile of cack if it ever comes to making a claim.

Someone ran into our unoccupied and parked car, and admitted to the damage, which you makes you think it would be a simple enough claim off of their policy. Not likely several letters later, tens of phone calls, many weeks of grief and after an independent inspection the incident was finally sorted out. Even then Esure refused to pay for the hire car they arranged for us, or settle any disbursements for travelling, postatage and phone calls etc.

If your existing insurer is any good then stick with them... cheapest is not always best.

Also avoid Sheilas Wheels, who are part of Esure and equally as crap. You have been warned.

Thanks for all the replies, I can't believe the difference for the same cover.

I'll be looking at a few other sites tomorrow.
