Cool sounds a bit dodgy

as you know sheilas disco failed its m.o.t. quite badly and we sold it , the fail sheet went into 2 pages , mostly excessive corrosion , but a few other things too .

i went on the dvla website to declare it as sorn or sold ( to prevent a big fine ) , because the tax ran out at the end of feb ..... and it said its not due untill march 2012 . how can that happen with all the work that needed doing ? ..... incidently , my enquiry was only a few days after we sold it ... surely they havent done all that work in a couple of days ? ..... fgs even swifty isnt that quick ......... does it sound a bit dodgy to you ?

Was there any mot left when you sold it?
Did you sell it to a dealer?
I cant remember all it's probs but my truck was massively reconstructed last year and that was realistically two days. See pics
I've just bought a Patrol with 3 pages of fail. BUT again it's really just a few brake pipes and small stuff, but each item may have 3 lines to describe one small brake pipe

what could have happened was if the old mot was still in date by a couple of days then it could have been taxed at the post office with out much hassle

that is a possibility karl , but i was told that the new mot ( the fail one ) takes precedence ..... so actually the vehicle didnt have a current valid mot .... as i explained to the buyer

thin gis...the post office just see the certificate, did you give them the old valid certificate?? either that or he had a new certificate done by a friendly garage.

thats correct but when presented with a mot that is in date they have no way to check it is valid

probably just taxed so new owner could keep it on the road outside the house whilst it is being repaired

Actually the law is a bit grey there. The old MoT remains valid until it expires, so you don't commit the offence of not having one if you take it on the road.

But you can get done for having an unroadworthy vehicle, depending on the nature of the failures (I mean a knackered lightbulb or worn rear seatbelt wouldn't be deemed unroadworthy but its not 100% clear what is). And since my erstwhile colleague Mr Daved tells me its almost certain that the fail would find its way on to the DVLA database, the rozzers would get a flag off their ANPR as you drove past, so would probably pull you for a closer look.

Good advice, those letters are worth their weight in gold at times

As far as the ongoing debate of is it invalidated goes theres some real horse shit on the internet , just been having a good scout around

Just made a quick phone call and the answer i got was "whatever...............but..............ok youve got a valid bit of paper but youve also got a non pass, all recorded, so which will be the most valid when the case file is put together or the fixed penalty issued"

good point grey area or not and the report the fail presents is valid expert opinion

Also, MOTs are checked on the computer systems even if the cert is produced. Quite frankly anyone keen to present one is suspicious anyway, Ill bet most of you are like me and have to think where the damn thing is
