Do people check the prices on these "deals" normally?
Most of them are very nearly a con at best.
A lot of the "reduced" prices are reduced from a price that may have only been up for a few days. Some do now show in small writing "compared to price from " but it's only a few days.
Same with the "value" packs or "family size", often only pennies saved if anything at all.

lol, ive seen loads of these, its either an example of the youth of today, or someones stupid. One time, I saw a "deal", each item £1.50, or two for £3. Now, normally, if its a "deal" you expect a saving of some sort, not a lesson in basic maths.
