door trouble

sheila went out to my car tonight and had a lot of trouble opening my door , ok it was very cold and frosty , but what do other members do to stop locks freezing up ( if thats wot it is ? )

aint used it on my t2 yet but on my old espace i used to spray wd40 in the keyhole when it started gettin cold, dunno if it worked or not but the locks never froze

I just been out to my xantia and tried front passenger door almost had to lever it open we had dew/condensation now it is heavy frost, no cure just warm water round the door to un freeze it, Rick

If it is the rubber door seals freezing to the door then a good coating of Silicon spray will sort them out.

she said the key wouldnt turn , so i guess its the lock , she also said the door creaked and groaned when it finally opened

talking of frost ...... the funniest thing i ever saw in winter up here , was a guy pouring antifreeze on his windscreen to clear it

box of matches to warm the key up? I used to have a mini when i first passed my test, the handle and barrel was exterior on them so the match heated the handle up.
Hot water will only make it worse, you'll free the lock off that once but then later the extra water will freeze. Try a good dose of WD when defrosted and he how you go.

bit late now, but the tip about silicone on the rubber seals is a good one, i do that on my mazda (being frame less they are very hard to open when frozen), wd40 in the lock when you do have the door open and certainly warm the key up first because the lock will most certainly be frozen!

And don't forget guys....having a pee on the lock certainly works
But don't do it in a busy car park.
