patrol info required
im thinking of buying a patrol, and undecided to which engine to go for, obviously diesel, so a 2.8td or the 3.0lt, any input gratefully received, ie pros and cons, reliability, etc, oh and it will be a manual gearbox.
thanks. |

its a shame the UK stopped the Petrol patrols, equally a shame they never sold the 4.8 like they did in Europe.
I know diesel is the only option now, but I can't help but think the UK is getting shortchanged |

the 3.0 is quoted as having more issues potentially.
not aware of any 2.8 issues at all, patboy and jocky are atleast 2 fans of this motor. the 2.8 6cyl is praised for its smoothness, suspect went over to 3.0 to standardise options on terrano2. pity 4.2 td was dropped, feel was loss in rival race with land cruiser amazon from then on.

I have a Y61 2.8 and love it but given the choice i'd have the 3.0
The 2.8 is only putting out 129bhp and is like driving a snail but since having it i have really enjoyed driving again, not zooming about trying to get there as fast as you can, i now relax and enjoy the journey. I think the 3.0 puts out around 158bhp so think it would be a lot more usable but beware i think there was problems with the 3.0 enging in the earlier models so you should be looking at a truck from 2004 on. |
