Default A definite goodbye to my trusty Patrol.

Well, it hurts a lot to say this but my Patrol is no longer.

This morning we got rudely woken up by a popping sound. Turns out that our garage was on fire with flames shooting out of the roof. My Patrol and every tool I own has gone up in flames.

The biggest loss is all our Christmas decoration. Everything my other half collected over the last 50 years on her travels around the world. Memorabilia that she will never get back.

I feel for you Colin, but life goes on mate, you and your Mrs will recover, just be thankful it did not spread to your house, stuff can be replaced and nothing can take away your treasured memories, Rick

Not been feeling the love to visit the forum over the last few days. Currently in Portugal enjoying some sunshine but the garage gets talked about a lot.

Fortunately, nobody was injured which is the most important. The Incident Commander said to one of our neighbours that we were lucky there was hardly any wind. Otherwise we would have also lost the house.

An inspector for the contractor has paid us a visit and is recommending demolition and rebuilt of the garage. Not really surprised as the arches over the garage doors are cracked and sagging. Every wall has a massive crack running through it from top to bottom.

A building surveyor is coming round to inspect it on Wednesday and he will also advise if any remedial work has to be done to make the building safe. Heras fencing will also go up on Wednesday.

The representative of the contractor said that it will take 6-8 months until the new garage is completed. It is only a single skin with pillars which doesn’t take long to build at all. We haven’t been given a confirmed timeframe yet but if it takes 6-8 months then I don’t expect them to start this year.

I have very quickly looked at a possible replacement for the Patrol. There is a very nice near identical Patrol on Autotrader with 35k on the clock. Just a shame that the asking price is £20k!! Which I will never pay for a 26 year old car that is worth £200 according to the insurance.

A pickup will suit me but thy won’t be allowed into the council tip and the insurance is sky high. Land cruisers all have very high milage so it might become a Land Rover Discovery 3 from around 2006-2009. Not ideal but at least parts are easy to get and not too expensive. However, this will probably be something for next year.
