Default Bloody Health & Safety

No respect for people who died for their country - dozens of monuments laid on their backs in Brecon cemetery, including this one for my great uncle who died in a flying accident WW1 and his mother (my grandmother), who was buried with him later.

Bloody thing was solid as a rock last time I visited a year or so ago.....and no plans to repair it either, so that a fairly rare RFC crest carved in marble (very prone to frost damage) is now exposed to long-term damage.

I'll have it put back of course but the cemetery looks like a bloody bomb site now - this is what we pay our council tax for.

They have done this in a cemetry local to me. The reason?

They could potentially fall on child. I haven't checked lately, but the places where we honour the dead are not officially playgrounds and just maybe the parents could take some responsibility.... Sorry started to sound like Mr Angry there... Rant Over!

Regards

i'm sorry what? they have purposefully removed the cross and laid it down? without your consent? I'm sorry but its the first i've heard of this, so dont know the facts, but if it were me, i'd be beyond anger and fury, and be kicking the doors down at the local council office. how dare they dis respect the dead liek this? the friggin COUNCIL, who BANG ON ABOUT THE "YOUTH OF TODAY BEING VANDALS" and they are doign it themselves? disgrace, i dont mean to over react, its just i cannot stand dis respect of any kind, i just cant tolerate it.

let me know if you need a hand putting it back together.

Apparently its been quite widespread but most of us didn't know. Seems there have in fact been five deaths in recent years.....one of them apparently a bloke pissed coming home from the pub who took a shortcut (to heaven!) across the cemetery, and the other four were kids climbing on gravestones....as you say, doing stuff they shouldn't have been doing, so no different in my mind to playing on the railway, main road etc..., parents today don't seem to teach their little 'darlings' a thing do they!

But you'd think they'd do something, especially where a war grave is concerned. Still, don't mind paying, it just sucks that some knobhead is creating a job for himself by panicking about anything that moves (or doesn't!)....

It's infuriatingly beurocratic nonsense. Oh let's just take apart grave stones shall we, and while we are at it encase cars in sponge and keep planes attached to long wires or perhaps let's just repair the damage done and get on with life?
