They are right Pete, it can take 25 to 30 years AFTER exposure for it to cause you problems, you got no worries, and remember all the time it is not abraded it causes no problem anyway, like so many things today, it is scaremongering, Rick

They are not, by any chance, marketing an asbestos removal service?

As long as it is not cut or otherwise reduced to fine particles, no problem at all.

Have you got any textured ceilings by any chance Pete? Can't remember the brand that used to be popular but that used to contain the stuff. At least you've not been in the house many years and of course the councils problem to remove or protect it.

Artex used to contain Asbestos Fibres but that was when it was marketed over 40 years ago.

Thats the one and I'll bet Petes place will be in the right age to have it too.
Mind you sometimes they will be over cautious and say may contain fibres if they can't be bothered testing too.

Asbestos is still being found in schools, often found when windows are being replaced, as sometimes it is used as insulation.
Asbestos cement sheet was used for garage walls and corrugated roofing sheets and soffit boards.
Loads still around.
Don't disturb it, don't drill or sand it, don't break it up, it has been said by others, that there is little risk in most cases, if left alone.
