Default What 3 Words

Anyone heard of this, or even use it ? It would appear that someone has electronically mapped the surface of the earth into 3x3m grid squares, and then used a bank of 25,000 unique words to identify each individual square using just three of them.

What's the point I hear you say, well my village has 11 houses, just 2 postcodes and most houses have no numbers which makes ad-hoc delivery quite difficult; yet one unique phrase identifies my front door

To achieve the same accuracy using Lat/Long requires a string of 16 numbers. Further, large parts of the world don't even have postcodes, numbers or even street names; but using this system a simple identifier can be generated and communicated for any point on the earth's surface.

I think it's very clever, have a look HERE

The road I live on is spelt as two words on one street sign and as one word at the other end of the road !

When I worked in Burton on Trent on Moseley Street it was spelt in two different ways at each end for years (Mosley & Moseley)

See my signature for my levels of paranoia. .........looked at the site, was interested, but not enough to publish my home to anyone I don't know and trust.......and that's not many at all.......

A place I used to live is x.x.x which could be quite apt.

I passed not too far from you, Emjaybee, just before Christmas on my way to sunny Slough.

If I'd known I'd have popped the kettle on.

Default what3words

Sounds like Amazons Drone Delivery service when it rolls out will be able to pop a parcel in your back garden!

Not so good for High Rise Flats though?

super idea why our 2 bed semi has 3 unique squares let alone the ones covering
our garden.

going to pass it development team at work as sure could help our deliveries.

thanks for the link.

would help the camping club we use too as often there is no practical postcode
but this would pinpoint the temporary sites' entrances.

Default I am in rewarding.fled.ropes

Interesting idea 57 x 10 to power of 12 is a lot of squares needing a lot of words wonder if they change language with each country ?

My address seems to have a lot of different names depending which room I am in and where I am in the garden all quite different ?
