Unhappy Accidental offroading closed A465 in Wales !

Well yesterday whilst on our trip to Wales we were on the A465 somewhere near Pontygof when we reached a roundabout with the A465 being closed !

Did a couple of circuits and the A465 was definitely closed with no diversion signing unless the locals had hidden them. With no map book had to try to find our way towards Mountain Ash with not a clue as to where the next village was or its name!

After a couple of loops round the town we followed another vehicle that seemed to be going in our direction so we followed only to reach a dead end with no tarmac turning space. I boldly drove onto the wide grass verge as the car reversed back several hundred yards.

Wife was giving me the don't get stuck here routine in my ear as I did a 6 point turn half tarmac half muddy field. I finally got her at the point of no return with plenty of hindsight advice about loosing our way etc.

Only thing left was to forget the tarmac as this was too steep to get back onto and do the last leg of the U turn completely on grass and then run alongside the road and get back on it 30 yards down the road where it was flatter. Jeep obliged and we got back on route after an ad hoc diversion of about 4 mies in total to get back onto a new section of the A465.

We went back home via the M4 instead on advice of a local who admitted he got lost on a similar diversion the previous week ! This morning noticed we had stolen a nice coating of Welsh Mud under all 4 wheel arches!

The way I read the title, I thought it was going to be a news story about some yobs that were driving up and down the embankments or something
