Default Hello there, new Patrol owner from Wirral

Hi, I have just returned from buying my first ever Nissan 4x4. It's a 2009 2.8tdi Patrol and I am absolutely in love with it. My old ride was a 1968 Series 2a 109 Land Rover but that is going straight on Ebay! it's fantastic driving in the rain without my legs getting wet ;-) Really pleased with my purchase, it does have a few little issues but nothing too scary. I can't wait to get stuck in and get it out in the mud.

good choice in the 6 pot, smooth grunty motor, I rushed into an early 3.0 tdi zd and
paid the price times over.

Miss the space of the old Trol, would have another if was 2.8 or even 4.2....

Do you mean 1999 as well jealous if you have a 2009 Patrol.

Mine is the later 3.0 and to be honest is a great car I know the ealyer ones had troubles but they did sort this.

Kind regards

Russell.

I'm sure someone put it on here before but what is the "no-go" era for the 3.0l patrols?

Was it pre 2003 they were knackered?

Beat me to it!

Welcome by the way from another Trol owner

Your leaky hub will actually be an axle seal gone due to excessive swivel hub movement from a duff swivel/hub bearing. The seals on the swivel are really just scrapers to keep dirt and water etc from getting in and contaminating/washing away the grease on the cv - there's no oil in the hub itself.

You want to get a hub rebuild kit, this will include all the bearings and seals required. Axle seal can be a bugger to seat correctly so I just got a garage to do it (took them 3 goes, draining the axle each time!).

Yeh definitely 1999 as they swapped the 2.8 for the 3.0 around 2000

I've certainly mentioned it a few times

Yeh Nissan started putting the 3.0 into the Terrano in 2003 by which point they'd sorted the issues with the early 3.0 so anything 2003+ should be fine. That's not to say all pre 2003 3.0 Trols had/have issues (Ianinessex has a 2002 that seems to be fine) but it's ones of that age that had the early (bad) ZD30 engine design that caused the problems and blackened the 3.0 Trol's rep.

I believe there was a recall and mod done to some of the early 3.0's, shortened dipstick (to increase the sump capacity) and something done to the cylinders I think.

Hi & welcome one thing you won't need to spend any where near as much time fixing the Trol compared to your old Landy
