Advice Please - is my motor written off?
Hi Guy's, well here goes. My other Car a Reno Scenic was shunted yesterday. Here's a list of damage, what's peoples opinions about if this is a write off or not. Cars approx value according to Parkers is £1200 to £1500.
Rear Bumper and Moulding smashed Boot floor with spare wheel well is broken appart (it's plastic) The metal rear panel is pushed into the boot area trapping the spare wheel in place. Tailgate moulding The tailgate does not stay shut, tailgate may be pushed in or bent but I can't tell. The tailgate striker on the rear panel is psuhed well over to one side. Car is undriveable and also insure as it wont lock. There is a constant warning and bleep about the tailgate being open. Insurance are picking it up possibly tomorrow and a hire car tomorrow too. The accident happened in front of two PCSO's so they make perfect witness's. Our vehicle was stationary in a traffic queue and car behind just didn't stop. Any advice on whether it may be written off would be appreciated. I personally think it will be a write off. |

I would say with a Parkers price of £1500 it will be written off, Rick

write off mate, no doubt. As Baker says you may end up better off, one or two whiplash claims and the car value may pay for you a decent newer car?

I would say right off as well.
Unfortunately it is has come to the point were it is cheaper to total loss a vehicle, rather than repair it. Greed, rising costs and new techniques (water based paints etc) have us over a barrel when it comes to repairs. Hope it works out OK for you, but with insurance company's,.........who knows. Expect the worse scenario, it's all a bonus after that! Mick |

Well this appears conclusive doesn't it, what a shame because it's actually quite a tidy car. Can't really say a lot more now until insurance have picked it up and looked at it.
Fortunately Pete it's another company but their repairer is in Rotherham!!! which is miles away. They have started the ball rolling for an uninsured loss claim too so if it is written off we want to claim repair/maintenance bills for last six months and see what happens. Our photo's don't seem to do it justice at all otherwise I'd post a couple. |

Well just a quick update. The car has now been taken to the insurance companies repairer for assessment. We'll wait and see the out come just hope they let us know soon.
Doctor has officially said I'm suffering Whip Lash, insurance company have jumped at this news. I've always detested the compo culture we seem to be a part of, this makes me feel bad as am I as bad as the culture I detest? |

of course you need pictorial proof of the condition of the car before the accident , but it is your right to demand ( yes demand ..... insist ) that the repair is carried out to your satisfaction ...... they will probably argue ( as mine did ) , but threaten them with a independent mechanical engineer ( I know a good one lol )
