Your symptoms are not those of a faulty MAF.
More like air ingress or faulty crank sensor.... |

the crank sensor controls the rev counter does it not ?as the rev counter has been intermittent for a long time last year and every time it fails theres a mil light come on but no reduced performance while on it would cut out at lights dead every few weeks but would start up fine straight away , just the other day it cut then went pear shaped big time but now seems to be running fine apart from the rev counter doing its usual stuff, is that the crank sensor what youre talking about ?

the CKP doesnt control the rev counter. The CKP tells the ECU where the crankshaft is. This signal affects timing, fuel injection etc. If the CKP is going faulty, you will get issues like stalling, hard to start and running issues. The CKP wont make the lights go out, if the CKP is faulty, car goes into limp mode or just uses base settings from the ECU, or worst case, car wont start at all (because ecu doesnt know where the crankshaft is).
thats my poorly educated 2 pence worth. |
