You can put it in a conduit, or even use armoured cable... PS don't use the kettle whilst driving....

depends a lot on the inverter and its size, if it is a cheap y and draws big amps you have a problem, big amps mean big cables (I have a chart somewhere that makes it easy to size) but say you need to draw 40 amps (= about 500 watts) with the inverter in the boot then you need cables around twice the size of your starter cables, in order not to have voltage loss that makes the inverter work harder, and putting it in the engine bay is just as bad as they need to be kept cool not stuffed in an oven, hope that helps, if you want facts and figures then give me the details of your inverter, I can supply but need to find them (put them in a safe place?) you can get kettles and cuppa warmers that simply plug into your ciggie lighter socket , so you dont even have to leave the car

When I got my 800 watt inverter for the boat, it came with huge crocodile clips and heavy duty cable. ( It's wired in permanently now via an isolator switch and is 18" cable length from the battery).
So keep it loose in the boot, connect it to the battery when needed. It should still be quicker than using a 12 volt kettle, including the set up time. So if it is raining.... think again. Plenty of ideas here. Why not fit a sink, a 12 volt pump, a water tank etc so you can do the washing up as well. Having done all this tea drinking, you will also need a portaloo, or a bucket and chuck it. Curtains, a bed.... maybe a shower, tv, Why not tow your caravan all the time ?

not forgetting that when you pass a lot of current through a resistance ( cable in this case ) you generate heat ......needs some ferkin thick heavy duty cables to cope adequately and safely with that kind of current
