Been playing and helping
Did any of you see the lorries stranded on the A57 at Anston near worksop?
well I live just up the road from there and have been helping people out a bit. I didnt go to work today because I wanted to go playing and sledging with my son and a friend that I work with. We had plenty of fun yesterday and today driving through some mega snow, having fun sometimes and testing my terrano a lot. my tyres are pretty worn out and I desperatly need new ones but they are still getting me about. Due to my messed up life and family / work situation the tyres will have to wait. Like I said though my knackered tyres are still getting me around Somehow the fun turned into me helping people (still having fun too) I delivered a load of shopping to some old folks just off of the A57 where the lorries were stranded, had to drive around in 4L to get down some roads that look like they had not been driven down in days but my trusty truck got me there with no problems. then we took the shopping into the old folks homes, they were mega happy which made us happy too Then while driving out of one of these roads and trying not to stop because I was worried about getting going again a lady put her arm out to get us to stop, so I stopped for her . it turned out she was a nurse from an old peoples home that wanted to get some shopping from her house to the old peoples home especially some bits for an 84 year old transplant patient. I told her to get the shopping and jump in, I drove her about 5miles through snowdrifts etc to the old peoples home and then 5 miles back to her house. The poor nurse was pretty scared as the truck was bouncing around a lot and sliding everywhere but we did get her there. She offered me some money but I said no so she gave it to my son to buy some sweets Everytime I drove up to the police road blocks I leant out of my window and told them I was delivering stuff to retirement homes etc and the police just let me through it was ace. I even picked up two truckers and took them to a local village hall as they had been stranded on the A57 overnight. The sights I have seen over the last few days have been amazing and interesting, people fighting in tescos over milk and bread, people digging out cars that have no chance of getting anywhere at all, even a bloke shovelling the snow off of his hedge for some reason. I had a neighbour over the road who got flattened when he was bashing the snow off of his house roof.............the snow landed on him and I helped pull him out I am knackered now, started out at 9am and got home at 8pm and used about £40 fuel (thats all of my fuel, no more till 24th Dec, roll on payday ) so sadly my truck is possibly gonna be parked up till christmas now But I have now decided I need better tyres, A tow rope and to join a 4x4 response group |
