bum wobble
today while driving into halifax , i noticed that the rear of my car seemed " wobbly " .. so i stopped in a layby and checked the back of the car .... i pressed down on each corner and it bounced once then settled on both ..tyres have plenty of tread , ...... im a bit worried because it has to go for a mot shortly ( its first proper one since i bought it ) ..... any ideas ? ... ive had the front arb bushes done .... could it be the rear ones ?? ..... or anything else ?

oh , it seems to be sitting a bit lower than normal , ie the back is slightly lower than the front ..... or is it me worrying ?

You don't have any half filled oil drums in the back do you.?
It would give the same symptons. Wet salty roads are a bit lively, are both your rear tyres the same tread, pressure, type etc, as it could be the LSD working against you, and slipping on the wet road rather than slip the LSD, when was the last time you changed the oil in LSD?

last time i checked tyre pressures ( monday ) they were ...... 29 rear ..... 28 front

thanks rick , ive just had a look outside ( ok its dark ) but the front looks higher than the rear ..... any ideas rick ? .... ive done a press test on the shockers and they bounce once then settle

Rear end wobble
Hi Briggie,
On my R3mR it always had a bit of rear end wobble that slowly got worse. Two MoT's later and my local garage found the problem it was a bush on one of the two short rods on the upper part of the rear axle. To date only replaced one pair on the right side my mechanic did not do the other side as the bolts were solid. Ought to have done both sides but decided to wait until they show signs of movement. Should have done both rods for balance but no feel of any problems now and bobble gone. Milner Off Road supplied a set of Polybushes (Orange rated) and problem was sorted. On mine there are four such bushes on the upper short rods and four on the rear swing arms so there is plenty of areas where you can have some wear / movement. The Polybushes are easier than the Nissan ones to fit and tighten up the suspension a bit. |

Hi Mr Brigg, the rear bump stops on the terrano are part of the suspension, as you load up the rear the large squashy figure of eight stops are soon reached and become part of the springs support. They do drop off, infact mine didn't have any when I bought it but I didn't know and had a couple of m o ts without them. When mine sagged at the back it was the spring holders which had rotted away. The bump stops are I believe £88 each from Nissan but I got a pair from ebay for £25.
