View Full Version : Hi Everyone
Hello
Just signed up as I'm looking to buy a Patrol or a Terrano.
Previously had a '00 Discovery TD5. Excellent offroad and had no problem last year with the worst Aberdeenshire winter Ive seen. However, it suffered terrible chassis rot, used to struggle to reach 60mph and drank diesel like nothing else :doh - so on the garages advice, it was traded in.
So while looking for something similar to replace it, but without the running issues, I am obviously after something Jap. I own an R32 Skyline GTR and an import Almera GTi so it was clear I was going to be after another Nissan!:bow
Hopefully be able to find what I'm looking for, ideally a Patrol GR 2.8TD, around 99 to 2000 age.
Cheers
Alan

Once youve gone Jap :augie theres no turning back :sly :naughty :D :lol
& youve choose the king of the Nissan 4x4s :bow :thumbs
Well that is just it Adz, I have no idea what compares to a Land Rover in terms of capability off-road, but after a week of driving my mates 86 Defender 3.5 V8 around, I know I dont want a Defender (will it start? wont it? will it die at the lights?). Fair enough the diesels might be alright, but the Disco ruined that for me. I have been looking at Landcruisers and Shoguns but I'm Nissan at heart so it wouldnt be right :lol

Defender or Patrol............:nenau
With the patrol you get a heater that works, seats you can adjust to get comfortable. Off road capability much better than a defender ( Tyres are King!! ) :thumb2
And the use of this forum+++++++++
We are Nissan biased, but unlike the LROC we welcome other marques so long as you have, have had or are going to have a Nissan.. It doesn't even have to be a Terrano:eek::augie

Thanks for the warm welcome folks.
My question is, how does the SWB compare to the LWB in terms of fuel economy and space etc?
I'd like to use the car for snowboarding but dont really want to put the boards on the roof as they'll be iced over by the time I get anywhere, so wasnt sure if the SWB would be big enough to put boards inside.
Welcome to the club i am fairly new myself i have a lwb terrano 2.7 tdi and i average about 110 miles on 20 quid unless my foot gets heavy lol lwb i guess would be best to put ya boards in swb u may get ya head removed by ya boards or they might not even fit

Troll all the way, GR, LWB, 3.tdi 4 cyl or 2.8 td 6 cyl.
king of full size suvs world wide, and working on uk!
proof is long way down choice of vehicle, check out
popularity across asia and oz.
comfort #1, live axles coil suspension all round.
my 3.0 does 22mpg all the time round town and towing
maybe upto 26 solo on a long run. not bad for 2.5 ton
of truck.
2nd choice 2.7 tdi terrano, having had one for 4 years
before troll, would be our 2nd vehicle to troll if could
have another toy.
bit more nimble as narrower, 2800kg towing limit compared
to 3500kg on patrol. mpg on t2 was typically 25-33 solo.
Well today I picked up a 1999 Patrol GR SE Touring 2.8
Really nice car to drive, i love the beefy sound to the engine, and it feels bigger than the disco I used to drive.
However, there are a few problems.
The fuel gauge has started to take a life of its own. Yet, I have a reciept for the sender etc being replaced in Jan 08 for a total cost of £400+!
The pump for the headlamp washers will run for 5seconds when you turn the ignition on.
Only the front drivers door speaker and tweeters work.
NATS system is unplugged but flashes the lights when plugged in, assume I need to get a master key of some sort.
4H will not engage, lever just wont move back, yet the light comes on and then will suddenly go off.
Car needs ignition to be left on for about 8-10seconds after the heating coil light goes out before it will start easily. Otherwise it cranks over for a few seconds and has poured white then black smoke out the back. Doesnt smoke when running though.
Anyone have any ideas to any of the above problems?
I'll put some pictures up tomorrow, for now I have this one:
