a house !!! a street !!! a young bloke early thirties modding cars in his garage
:jesterbg:jesterbg:jesterbg
but instead i met a more mature bloke who's tried loads of things in life, and seems to have found something we all want a bit of.
"your own life, almost the good life"
someone with a wealth of knowlege , not scared to have a go and is creative
its funny, my place is not that different to yours, but thats just the way my life has taken me .
i left your place today kicking myself that i had not spent the time to meet you when i was living in eastbourne. and had the chance to learn and spend time around you

It is not impossible to do and it does not have to cost more money, and a mass convoy down here will be welcome next year. Rick

its funny , i used to want everything. so did the ex wife.
until it cost me everything i was working so hard to keep.
now i have nothing , i want for nothing. and im the happiest i have ever been .
my life is nice , people like me more, my step kids want to be with me and say " its nice being home" its a much nicer place.
my ex there mum still wants the world . but they choose to be with me and work hard to get what we need and have time to play and relax.
only this weekend me and my new partner jo have decided, we was happier when we didnt have a telly. needless to say its going next week
( for a trial peroid )

See Rick, youve now set me a fair old task do I do 2, 7,08,1,9,4 and what about the 7 or do I do 27,08,1,9,4,7 oh such problems such problems.. Dont know if it would do me any good if I won but as John McEnroe once said "when you have nothing no one will give you anything of any value but when you have something people break their necks to give you something" So I would like to win it so I can share it out and help a few people :):):)
I couldnt agree more
I'm really bricking it that i'm throwing away a job even though i dont see the cash at the end but i'm not happy
So next year i will be starting my own business & work to live not live to work
Plus if i have nothing she cant take nothing
i have read this thread with increasing interest , as you all probably know i have met rick, mags, swifty etc on numerous occasions , even being privilidged to be invited to ricks birthday party , i consider rick and his family part of my family, sometimes you have to look beneath the exterior to find the real person .

The keywords in this are "work to live not live to work ":thumbs:thumbs:thumbs The only reason I do the euromillions is that I would like to add a little sunshine to a few close people who have helped me when I had nowt, (not that Ive got a lot now)and would like to be able to quote the following "Tommorrow if I wake up it would be so nice to do what ever I want too" Once youve had everything then what else is there to get!!!
At the moment "I work when I need to" which is also nice

I wish my life was simple!!! I just had the wife nagging at the amount lecky we are using. She got one of those smart meter things that tells you what you are currently using. I just had to go around switching things off and then she buggered off to bed. She moaned at me until I got the security light working in the back garden, now I've just had to go unplug it in the garage. The fridge was running away so there aint a lot i can do about that. Best I could get to was 585 watts, with no heating, no telly and little lighting. One of the kids will have their telly on im sure.
So this meter has far from made life easier it's made it bloody worse!!!!
Rick I'm not sure what you do down there but if it's a simpler life than mine I'm gonna move in next door to you:doh

Well we are not on the grid for a start, we generate our own electric with diesel gen set, solar panels help, as does a water wheel, we store power in a bank of full traction batteries, our water comes from a spring which is filtered and fed into an 8000 ltr tank, and we have a composting toilet, as for next door the nearest you could be is 300 to 400 mtrs and no available spaces, Rick

Wind is a waist of time, water well it depends on how much you have and the head 10,000 ltres a day and a head of 10 ft will be just about usable, it might just run a 100 watt light bulb with a 10 ft wheel , Rick

No need as red derv is 55 p ltr at the mo, but the 1975 twin air cooled Lister runs on 50/50 derv/old engine oil when I have it, Rick

what about a nice stream . i was thinking you could use the electric bit off a generator throw the engine away and run a drive shaft to a wheel turned by water ????
an old 5kw genny would give me a few lights wont it ?

Next time you are down you will have to have a look at my water wheel, you missed it last time, it is 10 ft diameter and drives an old land rover gear box backwards (set in low) then it drives some pulleys and belts to get the speed up to 300 rpm for the permanent magnet alternator on the end, works great when we have some rain, Rick

Never occurred to me before Rick, but I'm guessing that a registered smallholding ought to be eligible to use red diesel?:nenau

Do not see a problem, as long as it is used for Heating/Power generation perfectly legit, but don't buy it in 45 gallon drums, you need a tank and purchase 1000 ltrs at a time, but there is no official checking, when I bought my first load the driver was only interested in the quality of the tank and cos we are near a stream was it bunded (which of course it was) I might add that although most oil CH systems run on kerosene most boilers can run Derv (gas oil) with little modification so any oil household can have red derv in their tanks, Rick

Tank not a problem...but wondering what cost benefit is with heating? Heating oil seems to be around the same price as red diesel so by the time you've paid to have your boiler modded and connected your red diesel tank to your system you're out of pocket surely?

ITS A GREAT SET UP HE HAS THERE , IM GUESSING OLD ENGINE OIL IS FREE , PERHAPS GARAGES MIGHT EVEN PAY RICK TO " DISPOSE " OF IT :augie:nenau
its nice to see people like rick all self sufficient
great bloke and helpful and very knowledgeable about a manner of things
he could always put an add in the paper or on local board and speak to garages might get a bit of differnt types of oil could always ask local chipshops

A new jet and an air adjustment on most oil boilers, same tank, the point is once you have a tank full of the red stuff what you do with it is ??????????????? Rick

Now you are not talking about a diesel engine are you, cos at the pressures these run at a very short pump life can be expected on kerro, over 2000 psi as opposed to 100 psi on a boiler, Rick
extreme-4x4
28-10-2010, 10:23
no the boiler, it works with red with no adjustment. i find it very slightly better than kerro.
done a few tests cos im poor and on 25 litres it was lasting up to 5 days where kerro would last 4-4.5 days.
but obviously loads of possible causes ie
tank weeping
temp
usage (baths etc)
but without being too fussy i preferred it, although the water people prob prefer kerro with me living by a stream diesel is much harder to clean up than kerro
