View Full Version : Stupid unexpected expenses!
so i took my Mazda into the garage for its handbrake cables replacing. simple job, but time consuming as thinsg are with these cars. £85 for the cables plus 2 hours labour, labour being £95 inc vat. so not disatrous. "Mr Varley?" yes "you need a new nearside caliper-the handbrake mechanism is broken" poo "£125 inc vat fitted" bah.
actually, in all fairness, i did wonder about that caliper as its the last original one left on the car, ive done the other three already and it does stick. but its bloody typical, i couildnt afford to get the handbrake done, let alone a caliper, oh well!
Had to replace the handbrake cable on the wifes Picasso,
Jack the rear up and place on axle stands, undo a few clips, 10 minutes and job done. £20 for cable from local factors.
While I was at it spent half an hour waxoyling as much as I could see.
Citroen leave all cast iron to rust, ok not a problem but it leaves a rusty mess after the rain on my nice clean painted garage floor.:doh
Now can't have that can you. :nenau

Dont talk to me about fcuking brake problems :mad: emotional roller coaster
My front n/s caliper started dripping fluid on monday :doh oh shit.....re mortgage job, best good news of the day choice of two recon and both well under £70 next day delivery.
Gets underneath for a proper look even better, its the banjo fitting leaking, oil spatter looked like it was from the calliper , couple of copper washers from my "big box of bits" :thumb2:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2
Not quite.............. bloody banjo bolts knackered, sheared off half way out, dealer order part, managed to get it out without knackering the calliper. Local dealer is out of them.....argghhh. The parts dept is good and they can get me one for tomorrow but my cars off the road for a bolt thats less than £2 in vat :doh:doh:doh:doh:doh:doh:doh
I also need a car tomorrow very very busy day so I was going to put mine into a garage and take advantage of the courtesy car but most have the job as 2 hours labour :naughty so that would be getting expensive so out local branch of Burnt Tree are doing me a megane for two days for £40 all in for two days :clap:clap (less than an hours labour by my reckoning :thumbs )
Why nothing straightforward :(
This reminds me of the poem:
For Want of a Nail
For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.
For Want of a banjo bolt
For want of a banjo bolt the caliper was lost.
For want of the caliper the brakes were lost.
For want of the brakes the car was lost.
For want of a car the day was lost.
For want of the day the job was lost.
And all for the want of a banjo bolt.
