View Full Version : bangs and rattles
i have " aquired " a few bangs and rattles on sally , one is the rear door , upon investigation ( limited obviously ) it seems the rear door will move when closed and locked , ive had a peek in the manual , but cant understand " striking mechanism adjust " or the other thingie , which one adjusts it ? and which way ?? , also my rear seat rattles , again ive tried to have a peek , but cant see what is rattling , suggestions everyone ?
thanking you in advance
pete ( briggie )

Ive always find if you suspect a door hinge or latch to be only very slightly out of line or worn so you cant see it but allowing a rattle (which come on dead easily) Get a grease gun and pump some grease in. Even if it doesnt cure it it should change the note and then you'll know if youre in the right area :thumb2
The other consideration is wiring and associated what have you. Have you changed or moved any lately? a few wires even foam wrapped can make ridiculously loud and annoying noises if theyve worked or been left loose behind a panel :thumb2
Looks like sundays taken care of ;)
if the door hinges are the problem, then you have to grease them or replace them i believe. as for the locking mechanism, i believe it has two screws holding it in, loosen those and pull the lock clamp thing forward and tighten...perhaps? thats what i did on my old mazda 323 anyway...
as for the seats...like daved says, grease them, becausei bet they are already tight...!

What I would call the striker is on the door apperture not the door. Usually those adjust, it'll probably want moving in towards the inside of the car and then retightening. Also grab your spare wheel and check it's not loose. The jack can also cause noises if not nipped up in it's little brackets.
If all else fails me you and clivvy can meet up one weekend and we'll sort all three trucks in one go:thumbs

hey many a thing said in jest...................my jeep developed a suspension creak after being overloaded with rubble earlier this year :o
I reckon it was the plastic load liner that tipped the balance

all discos need the boot floor welding at some point. the problem with that pete is i think its a big job, the olb boot needs removing first.

youre not wrong mate, you have to remove the rear seats, carpet and fuel pump etc i think, rot boxes at the back are landrovers...
