I'd say the site is offline as much as it's online for me. And that's using two different computers and also on my iphone on wifi or 3g.

Very frustrating. :(

I had shed loads of grief over this and it turned out to be something to do with those muppets at Orange:doh
I gave them a proper talking to eventually and they gave me two new DNS addresses or something, result, problem solved:thumbs
Now moving off orange too:lol

yes, the issue is DNS, if you add GOOGLES dns servers to your network settings for example, problem solved, the issue appears to be with Orange (and some other providers) dns servers not updating...

I am having problems too, but the above might as well be in computer speak as far as I am concerned, can you talk me through it, Rick, ps it is not that I am computer shy ( I started with a Vic 20) but my short term memory has gone dns.sme, ddn, I have lost track completely so by the time I look up all this stuff I have forgotten what I was looking it up for.

Only time I ever have problems is from my phone but I've put that down to poor signal and poor net access full stop with Voda.

no problem Rick, tell you what ill do, illpost up a guide for adding the dns sites of Google. It may not solve the issue like for some (depends whch dns servers they used), but for everyone ive added the GOOGLE dns servers for, its worked, so we can give it a bash, its harmless, and easily un done!

ill post it up tonight!

Had the same problem towards the end of last week. It does happen from time to time that I can't get on to the site and I could be using landline broadband or wireless.

I get on the site ok, the only problem I have is on the start up page, you don't always get the pictures, just the box "Enter Site"

But it has been ok recently.

Finding it impossible in the evening, usually after 7pm but can be from 5pm onwards, although now and again (once or twice a fortnight) can get on up tp 10pm. Have even tried at silly oclock 3 or 4am with no success. I'm using a wireless connection to my modem in England and the same to my landlords' modem here in Spain - problem the same at both locations.

The site hasn't been off line for many months, DNS issues with your ISP are the problem.

When I upgraded the server a few months ago some ISP's (Orange being the biggest one) got their DNS settings mixed up... but unfortunately they refuse to accept they have issues :doh

As nothing is broke this end, there is nothing for me to fix :thumbs

Try any of these as alternate (secondary) DNS servers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

heyup!

the idea is to make your computer use different DNS servers to the ones provided to you by your ISP, presuming the ISP is having difficulty getting this site to you. To change the DNS depends on your operating system, have you got XP, Vista or Windows 7? Or a MAC? Either way, you need to:

go into Control Panel, look for Network and Sharing centre or anything with "Network" in it. Go into that and look for your network adapter, so its either Local Area Connection * or Wireless. Click "Properties", in the white box containing lots of options, click Internet Proctocol Version 4 so its highlighted (DONT untick it) then click Properties. in the General tab, at the botom, you will see "obtain DNS server address automatically", tick the round button to select "Use the following DNS..." and enter Googles dns servers which are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4, click OK to accept and close all the open windows, close your internet browser and try again.

I've been having intermittent problems too,and I don't understand how it could have anything to do with Orange as I don't think they operate over here. Thanks for the info Clive, have set that up and will see how I get on. At the moment it's ok but it is usually evenings when it goes pear shaped.

For those who are still having problems, below is how to fix :thumb2

For Windows 2000 or XP:-

Using windows explorer (not internet explorer) find the Hosts file which is located in the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc directory.
Right click this file and then left click on properties.
Near the bottom in the Attributes section, make sure the Read-only box is un-ticked. If it is ticked, remove the tick and click OK.
Now double click the Hosts file and open with Notepad. Go to the bottom of the text and add the line:-
65.38.186.188 (then press the Tab key) www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com
Now save and close this file.
If this file was originally read only, follow the steps above to put the tick back in the correct box.
Now reboot your PC and all should work :thumbs

For windows Vista

Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
Right click "Notepad" and select "Run as administrator"
Click "Continue" on the UAC prompt
Click File -> Open
Browse to "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc"
Change the file filter drop down box from "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files (*.*)"
Select "hosts" and click "Open"
Go to the bottom of the text and add the line:-
65.38.186.188 (then press the Tab key) www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com
Now save and close this file.

Now reboot your PC and all will be fine :thumb2

My screen did not show exactly what you have described, but after much searching found it and entered the numbers, all seems well so far, have logged off several times today and seem to get back on OK, time will tell , have seen Bat21's fix will not try that unless I get further problems, all I can say is Fuffin Microsoft rubbish, worst system we could ever have used but the man made the claim, now we are stuck with the worst operating system going, any one who experienced the Amiga system will I am sure agree, or even Apples, Rick
