Im looking at buying a new car to replace my Mazda. I want a 1.7 Ford Puma, always liked them and they get good reviews. what I dont understand, is the quotes i am getting are HIGHER than those i get for my Mazda, even though the insurance group is much lower, Mazda is a group 16, Puma is a group 12E, a smaller car, a MUCH smaller engine etc etc...it makes no sense...

anyone???

car insurance seems to have gone through the roof lately mate, the best quote i got for one of our cars was £600 when it was just over £400 last year, it may be that your mazda would also cost much more to insure now. Also some insureres give dicounts if the car is older for some reason, is the puma going to be newer?

the puma is probably considered more likely to be nicked by the brain dead moronic theiving bastids , so they can drive around in it looking cool on ther way to buy some more drugs ?:nenau

ring round mate, got my insurance through direct line, £600 cheaper than my old company !
Can't even remember who they were. :nenau
Don't know about cars but someone once told me bike insurance prices went on how many of a certain model were involved in accidents or claims. For example, my TRX850

cost less to insure than the TDM850 which replaced it. Basically the same bike. Same engine, same performance, although the TRX was sightly sportier. And handled better, ie. got crashed less.

very odd, but you guys are right, prices have shot up. they did last year when i was renwing for the Maverick AND mazda, I ended up with both cars with Direct Line paying slightly more than the year before. Im definately going to ring round and be hard. Ive got tons of no claims (never made a claim also) and im 33, two cars already etc etc. The Puma is newer, but then that makes it more desirable i suppose, although my mazda is considerably more prestige and sporty. go figure.

I used Compare the Market and renewed fully comp on the T2 for £212.00 with Admiral. My current insurer (the AA wanted £287.00). I also got a lower excess and free legal cover.

It really pays to spend a bit of time hammering away with these companies. It's a highly competetive market for them and they want your business.

I think the Puma is classed as a "Sports Coupe" and therefore supposedly driven by irresponsible youths with bumcrack jeans and hoods. The fact that you wear tweed and have a girlfriend called Gertrude makes no diffs to the ignorant little men in the back office who count the pound coins !! :)

good point.....and youre probably right too!! thing that gets me though, is my Mazda is a 2.5V6...its very much a sports coupe, a heck of a lot more powerful, but costs considerably less, as does my maverick...*sigh*, ah well./.

NOthing makes sense any more, we traded my missus old mazda 323 in on the scrappage deal (which was supposed to get older polluting cars off the road) for a new mazda 2.
Old (L Reg) 1.6 1200 thingys per wotsit co2 ; new 1.4 1400 oojamaflips per thingmy.
So, more pollution, same road tax, slower, less comfortable, more insurance, and if it goes wrong I can't even take the engine cover off or I'll invalidate the warranty. Wot a load of arse.

Just insured ours today 1/10 got several quotes rangeing from £197-£675 how the hell do they come up with quotes that far apart someone is at it....

Anyway added it to Multi-Car policy at £202.98 in the Mrs name and me as a named driver, bloody strange when you think the A8 4.2 costs £146.54 in my name and the Mrs as a named driver

Someone needs to look into these insurance people they are ripping the car driver off......So whats new £1.23.9 petrol and £1.27.9 Diesel need I say more The joys of Highland life.....chin-up

i dont understand why some members are paying £300-600, i use confused.com, voyager 2.8tdi £375 inc non insured driver cover, transit camper £153 full comp, mk2 cortina £70 classic, and when we had a t2 £165 full comp,
do you have points, been banned, etc, seems a bit painful for some.:nenau

Tried a few others who say they dont use comparison sites, but they were even more money:doh
Focus is about £175, cortina with 2.9 v6 was 95 squid

I do not undestand the rules behind insurance

fact 1 - my VFR motorcycle is older than my truck but does 150mph plus and 0 to 60 in 3 seconds = 70 per year for me and my mate as a named driver, TPF&T

fact 2 - Harley sportster 1200s worth 3 x my truck = £49 per year TPFT

fact 3 - looking for a non import maverick terrano
