My mates son has bought to land rover discoveries over the week end.

He decided with his mates complete with designer shorts and sandals to go "off roading".

Saturday NIGHT despite being warned off the pit falls off he went = 1 x LR diesel with a blown engine.

Enter LR two off road playing on Sunday NIGHT with no back up, no winches or ropes, shovels or anything (still wearing shorts and sandals) = stuck in the middle of a forest in a valley that contained a dried up but muddy river bed = phone call at 11 o'clock last night and found a 3.9 disco on its belly.

I got to the top of the valley laughed alot as anything short of a chinook would not have got this disco out.

They were amazed that I actually reached them without crashing, getting stuck or blowing the engine by being cautious and using an experienced spotter. Tried straps and hand winches just to prove a point, but a waste of time.

cars on the road today

Nissan Mistral = 1 and LR = 0

In a standard form, from what i've seen in my year n a half of off roading :D
I think all the Jap stuff piss's on the green ovals apart from later 90's.!

Excluding lockers, i really do believe that the terrano / mistral / maverick is better & its only draw back is the torsion bar :(
The engine on ours is far superior :D
Mine has drowned in 5 foot of water & survived where many green ovals have died :augie :lol :D

I considered a disco as a run about a whiel ago, i looked at every one in a 50 mile radious for £5k and under and not one was worht the asking price, without going into details, scruffy, rotten and oil leaks. I bought the first Nissan i looked at, Nuff said

Ours goes on ramps at weekends to be modded theirs go on ramps at weekends so they can go back to work Monday to pay for the repairs the following weekend.

Land rovers are good if you want to become a mechanic :lol

isnt it common practice for LR owners to put a terrano or Fourtrak engine in their tins? thats one for a start. I like Landrovers dont get me wrong, but from my limited experience the Terranos etc stand the test of time a LOT better than a Landrover, everything from costs of repairs to amount of repairs, the Japanese design is better.

For me, the Terrano is a better car (mines a Maverick) on the road, but thats just my personal tastes, theres no doubting the Landrover is superb (im talking about the 90/110 and even the Disco)

LR drink the juice had RR 2.5td and got 28mpg Hilux was a 3.0 and I was getting 35mpg over same distance.

RR Classic have brake trouble
All LRs are unreliable they also cost a bomb to buy parts aint cheap either

Std terrano/maverick will P all over std Disco in every dept. As said before it's ultra reliable, comfy and powerful. OH and it's got LSD :D
If you buy 2" lift springs for about 75 squid then wind up the torsion bars , you've got a very useful +2" offroader :sly
It'll cost a fortune for the disco to catch up :lol
LR 90s are much better than the disco off road but bloody expensive and need fixing most weekends:doh
I've been offroading for about 18mths too and unless the LR is very modified (expensive) Terrano will do very nicely thankyou.
