hi all i got my truck on the 12th of this month and it had 10 month,s tax and test on it this morning i got a letter from the post office saying the cheque has been returned unpaid it wos a rubber one im sooo not happy Wright now
been to see the guy i got the car off he says he got it to sell on and had it 6 days before i had it off him and he got it with the tax as well what can i do now ??? any advice please guys:(:(:(
Surely the problem lies with the seller and the post office, i can see no reason why you should lose out and the post office should pursue the seller for payment.

it is down the the seller i got it off ive been to see the police and asked a bit of advice my mate says to give him a choice pay for 6 months tax or give me all my cash back
lies with seller-its HIS cheque that bounced, not yours.

its not his mate he had the car 6 days before i got it from him he got it just to sell it on again so he says (so he did not tax the car)
that means your car has no tax even though its displaying a disc... becarefull you dont get stoped cos it might get squashed:eek:

happy at all im going to ring the post office back in the morning and see wear i stand then ill be off back to the sellers house i think and he better hope he is going to sort it out or ill just have to phone the police i think see what thay have to say to him
this whole "selling for a mate "thing is no excuse, at the time, it was his responsibility. you could, i suppose, call it fraud too? perhaps even theft to some degree.

There is a chain here, you were the innocent purchaser, if he had the vehicle for only 6 days he is clearly a mini trader so he should either pay for the 10 months tax or refund you part of the purchase price to cover his misrepresentation. As a trader its his problem and the buck stops with him.
If he did buy it as an innocent purchaser (big if) not a trader then he goes back to the chap he bought it from until someone reaches the chap with the rubber cheque.
In the real world I would try to get some sort of deal with the bloke you bought it off.
Presumably you did not follow DVLA advice on buying a vehicle to avoid being conned such as the seller being the registered keeper and viewing the vehicle at his address. Yes I know its not how you find a bargain!
When I was a Custody Sergeant we had one bloke who was selling cars that belonged to the company he worked for and he sold about a dozen cars with log books mostly privately to the tune of £150K before he was caught. I felt sorry for one of his female victims who lost £13,000 with no hope of getting any compensation-she had a 5 year bank loan to pay back and no vehicle.
He was in charge of a vehicle compound of a vehcle lease company that supplied courtesy cars for people who had been in an accident.
He worked at a Midlands depot that had over 600 cars throughout the UK. He had been out of prison for about 18 months when he landed the job as compound manager and boy did he make it pay!

i did buy the car from his home mate but his name wos not on the logbook he lives with his mom very nice lady so i trusted him more fool me im going to ask him to pay for 6 months tax and if not i will return the car to him for a full refund and buy my mates one off him with the cash i think (or that's the plan we will see)
(lol the car came from derby as well same as you)

i aggree with previous posts, the buck stops with the person you bough the car from and no one else, you take it up with him, his argument with them is his problem.
don't traders need to be reistered with local authority now? call local trading standards for advice!
