View Full Version : WOT NO Brakes!!!!!!!
Well it started off pretty normal, now I haven't had a sunday off for ages but toady I am not working so I thought I would adjust the handbrake NO problem -killingme- after all it's in the clubs downloads and I've done it before so following the instructions all is going well until I get to paragragh 5 :| where it say if it won't come off get two 8mm bolts to jack the drum off  OH dear I don't have two 8mm bolts so I jumped on the bike, pedalled off to Halfrauds (1mile each way to and from) on my return I get the drum off OH dear :!: :?: :| what a mess the brake cylinder is leaking like a goodun . .and also the springs have come away and the shoes are at a very strange angle So I tried a couple of the motor factors in the area ALL CLOSED and it's before 12 OH Dear any way got hold of STS tyres they can do the job Monday about £100 (ish) inc parts.
I don't feel confident to change the shoes myself so I am going to put it in the garage, they reckon about £35 for the brake cylinder from a local motor factor, but if I want to wait till Tuesday brakes international want about £15 + P+P  , sometimes I just wish I didn't start any jobs

Neat washing up liquid to degrease em then wash with water, dry thoroughly, then meths to shift anything really stubborn, failing those deagreaser does a good job obviously.
you have my sympathy, I did the same, pulled the shoe off with drum which pulled the piston out of the cylinder, hence the fluid on the shoes. I replaced the cylinder and washed the shoes but I suppose I could have just pushed the cylinder back in. Mine cost £22 from local factor. regards bri
I have now ordered 2 cylinders from brakes international in rochdale they will be here in the morning  Don't want to chance it going wrong whilst over on the continent this year . We have 3 trips booked, Holland in Feb, Belguim in March, and going back to Ca Savio Italy in the summer  , I will try to fit work in between
Well the parts arrived OK now hows this for bad luck .........garage phone to say part in but got the wrong ones 8O the garage said I need ones with oval fitting on the back the ones the arrived are round  so I rang brakes int and told them hesaid  I'll sort it  then told me that the parts would be in garage at about 15.30 hrs garage now to busy so I said 1st thing tomorrow :?: dunno mate we got a service at 10.00  but they open at 08.00  so what are they doing for two hours :?: they said dought wehter they do it in 2hrs :?: :?: so I have taken the truck to another garage and he said you will have it by ten
Now what I can't get my head around is, if my car is already there why take on someone elses in fron t of me ain;'t my money good enough :?: :!: :?: :!: :?: :!:

Where I used to work your truck would have been stripped that night ready for the parts to go on in the morning so I can't understand why they have said what they have & if there 1st job is at 10 there would be loads of time to do it
Sacked that garage  made a note to my self not to go back, found another that my mechanic who was to busy reccomended just so happens he's a geordy bloke and knows what he's talking about and likes 4x4s and american cars trucks  .
I think sweety that is what most garages would have done, stripped the night before so ready for parts in the morning, not these bone heads   and as for booking another service 8O :!:
it all comes down to the 5 Ps ....poor planning prevents poor performance 8)
