Hello chaps.

I've just joined this forum as I'm looking to return to the fold of Nissan 4x4 ownership.

I've not owned many 4 wheeled vehicles, doing the vast majority of my miles on 2 wheels, but in the past owned a 2.8 LWB petrol leaf spring patrol (160/260 I believe) and later I moved on to a 4.2 diesel GR - both in very tasteful UN white.

More recently I owned a 2001 4.0l petrol Jeep XJ Cherokee which never quite seemed to be fully working when I really needed it (floods, snow etc) which I replaced with the later model 2003 KJ 2.8 crd Cherokee which I've just handed back to the dealer as between him, the local Jeep dealer and a "diesel specialist" they cant stop the engine from cutting out.

So I'm thinking of going back to what I know - neither of my Patrols let me down and a few years back a friend decided to buy a 4x4 and I steered him towards a Terrano which he still has and loves to bits - I don't think he'll ever buy another car!

I'm no mechanical expert and no hardcore offroader but do fancy dabbling a bit and getting my hands dirty in both fields.

I'm currently trawling through forum posts and debating with myself whether to go Patrol or Terrano, Manual or Auto, LWB or SWB and which engine to go for (it will be diesel). One of the key criteria is to try and score a vehicle with heated leather seats if possible as that always seems to assist the sales pitch with the wife.

Anyway, expect me to post some silly questions in the near future.

Cheers

If you can find one a late Y60 4.2d auto lwb would be the dogs!! I had a 97 top spec petrol auto and the only problem was the fuel.. had heated leather seats, diff lock etc

Would love another 4.2 but I don't recall it being that easy to find one years ago so I'm guessing it's not going to be any easier to find one in reasonable nick now......

Newer shape Patrols do seem to be a bit more plentiful (relatively) so I may just have to compromise and go for one of those and the 2.8 or 3.0 rather than the trusty old 4.2

I have at least made one decision - I'm going to go for a Patrol rather than Terrano.

:clap Good Man :clap
We're few and far between here!!

I have heard of a few Y61's fitted with the 4.2D and some with the import TD:eek:

But if your going to use, abuse and enjoy what they can do, Why get one that's worth polishing or even washing:nenau

I just paid £995 for mine:clap but have serviced it £60 new front pipe £80, 16x8 alloys £70, BFG muds 265 75 r16 and it's a beast:thumb2

Keep looking and some thing will turn up:thumbs

Only one little problem I can see in getting another Patrol,...

...........as I'm also "downgrading" my bike to another BMW GS Adventure I'll have both the vehicles used in Long Way Down.........

Can't wait for the "Long Way to Work" jibes from my colleagues.

Although to be honest they'll just be happy I'm at work rather than phoning in with another Jeep-related tale of woe!
