Didnt want to hijack his thread and Im dead pleased Adz has named his dog :thumb2
But my problem..........we're about to take on (if he passes the final "I don't mind cats" test ) a 2yr old Staffi who's had a bit of a tough start to his life. He's a lovely dog and ticks all the boxes for us.

However he's called Zues which my missus doesn't like it and reckons sounds like a sort of pretend macho bullshit name an a hole would give him :nenau (she is quite blunt lol but probably correct about the person who had him last)
Problem is he answers to the name and it would be a shame to pratt him around changing it completely so we're trying to think of something that sounds like Zues
Closest we've got so far is Moose :doh
Any ideas :nenau ;)

Difficult one this, dogs do not know words its the simple sound (sorry I am not into text book stuff so I may be saying all this wrong but you will get my meaning) that a dog hears Zues sounds zzsss, so bruce sounds very different berooss or brooss, to get your dog to respond to that depends on the dog, personally I would choose a new different sounding name, and use it from the beginning he will learn to come to that in no time, especially if every time he responds you give him a little treat, just my thoughts, Rick

Thanks Fellas :thumb2 Duece could be a good un.
Rick ,I do know where you're coming from and I agree. I did wonder about a complete change of name and its on the cards. I've had staffis in the past and they're bright dogs he should pick up on a new name.
I recall my ex telling me one of the collies we had understood different words.......hmmmmm a quick shout of Banana which got his attention, when his name was Bob , tends to prove they'll pay attention anyway.
Thing is my missus likes "Moose" and you know what women are like.................

I agree a complete change of name shoudl work, have you thought of clicker training? I kknow stafies can be a bit 'thick' excuse my bluntness :) as i have owned a few.
how about these
hard B**tard
killer
terror
mutant death fiend
lol
no i quite like Bruce I think a short sharp name, with strong first letter and clear pronunciation would make the change easier and it is nice and macho for a nice looking dog :thumbs

best bet is rewarding good behaviour, and not punishing bad.
treats, and clickers work.
what a bout zoo, bit out of the box, but then look at plank's
wish list for future pet names in a recent post...

Do you really want fish names?
I can help on that one having (at the last count) nearly 30 fish spread between two tanks , most named by the missus ;)

He is a smart looking chap. We're just hoping he passes the I don't mind cat test this week. He passed on Saturday, actually turned it into the walk of shame, he couldn't wait to get away from them.................wuss :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol
Thats probably why he was leaning against my leg in the pic for a bit of security. I was quite impressed , he showed the classic staffi "whats that over there" interest but stuck to having a look rather than bombing off (you can just make out the slack lead).
Typical Staffy, scared of the cat :doh but would take on a Masstive :doh
I love pedigree Staffys, had 3 of my own, 2 lived till they where 13 human years & the other my whore of an x gave away when she kicied me out http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/forum/images/icons/icon8.gif she would of been 4 now n i would of put er to stud with the breaders friend who i bought er from :(
O well
Got Mutley now n his funny as fook :D

yes, this one belongs to my 5 year old daughter and is mostly white, though is a goldfish, bear in mind i know nothing about fish/
I think the new dog looks great, I like you 'slack lead' observation I hate to see staffie's walking their owners, with terriers you need to be in control and show them who's boss or they walk all over you.

oss as it seems the university of plymouth did research on the memory of goldfish and found they were quite intelligent and could even 'tell the time' though don't ask me how.
I htink this was all pat of research as people have allways considered it impossible to be cruel to fih as they have no brain and therefore can't feel pain. The research proved you don't have to have a brain (as humans understand one to be) to be intelligent. Therfore there is hope for all of us :thumbs
My pond goldfish have a memory lasting at least months, they wait in the same area of the pond to be fed each morning so they remember when and were I feed them, they used to recognise my neighbours voice, he fed them and talked to them whilst I was away, and if he spoke to me in the garden they would rush over towards him. Now I go away for up to three months leaving them unfed ( they do have a lot of tadpoles to eat) soon as they hear us making a noise when we come back there they are waiting in the feeding corner, who said gold fish don't have a memory, its better than mine! regards bri
