Is anyone playing out this weekend at the air show?
Still 50/50 whether the Vulcan is going to make it but I'm pretty sure all the stops are being pulled out to get it there. I don't care I'm going anyway:thumbs but it'll be a right bonus if the Vulcan makes it.

Well they've been running the engines up this evening, it'll be skin of their teeth if they get there but at the end of the day that is only one aircraft out of the many that will be displaying. The roar of 4 Rolls engines on the Lanc is sweet enough noise for me, that would make one heck of a ring tone:lol

As an ex snowdrop - the roar of the Vulcan as it goes vertical still sends shivers up my spine. I donated some money to the vulcan fund, but after visiting their web site and reading the bickering that went on between the team, thye will not get any more from me.

Hi Snowdrop, don't take it to heart there's been a lot of spats on different forums about XH558. Just like any other forum, anyway if they get out of hand we'll send you in to sort em out and put em in clink:thumbs

Well the good news is that it's looking a lot more promising for the Vulcan to display at Waddington this weekend. It started yesterday evening when residents of Lyneham were given something to complain about with the howl of 4 Vulcan engines at 6:45PM. She's been out doing her test flights today, gone from Lyneham to Brize doing a few low passes at Brize and a Chute landing (that's £500+ but I guess needed testing). This may mean that the CAA will of given the permit to fly. All being well it'll be the 3 practice display's at Waddington tomorrow for the crew to regain their permits. This is the one thing to make me smile today.

ok so dont have not worthy smilies !
fab that was...
abidding memory of vulcan seeing the one at newark,
is that museum still there, not been that way for 20
years?
thinking oh thats a nice fighter, then seeing it was
the big bird and there was a fighter parked underneath
it. then going in it and despite its size, what a squeeze
the split level flight deck was, and to think the crew
could be in there soo long on a mission like the falklands
drops.
would love to go to show, or stay on caravan rally
nearby, but state of troll's cooling and finances prevent.
not sure if my little girl at 3 is ready for the noise though
loves trains up close so theres hope.
i passed near raf waddington on the way down here , cranwell too :thumb2

Waddington Weekend
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jul 2, 2010 by Ian Homer. Posted to category: General
Latest news on this weekend's operations....
Following a successful test flight yesterday, we have now submitted paperwork to the CAA and are awaiting the Permit to Fly. The Crew were all happy with the flight and no faults were reported. The CAA Test pilot on board, even commented that "she flew beautifully." On landing at RAF Brize Norton, a successful compass swing was completed. (Update: Permit now signed and en-route to Aircraft).
To achieve this level of reliability after such a complex major service and modification programme, is a true testimony to the skills and dedication of our Engineering Team. Many congratulations to everyone involved.
Turning now to this weekend, we intend to depart RAF Brize Norton on Saturday and Sunday 3rd and 4th July , flying to RAF Waddington to display, then transit to Goodwood Festival of Speed for another display (on Sunday Only), prior to return to Brize. We will not be landing at Waddington.
Update on planned timings:
Waddington Saturday: Arrival 14:31 with bombing run and display.
Waddington Sunday: Arrival 14:00, with potential bombing run, then into display.
All this is subject to the usual caveats of weather and serviceability, and particularly, on the arrival of a fully signed permit on board the aircraft. All parties are working hard to achieve this in the shortest possible time - so please keep watching our "ticker-tape" updates for the current situation.
We thank you for your continued support and that you will enjoy seeing XH558 in the air very soon.
