No it doesn't, pls expand. I dont know why anyone would want to hack your account (or anyone else's :nenau) but if its a problem that's going to kick off.

You weren't going by the "members on line" bit once signed out were you

Unless there's any other indication eg details changed, its highly unlikely you've been hacked. Those on line lists are notoriously inaccurate and only update at certain intervals anyway. Thats when they're working properly.

guys, I spoke to pete earlier, let me explain.

what Pete did was log onto the garages computer, to show them a diagram form the club. you'll notice that when you go to log onto the site, "remember me" is ticked by default, so it seems when Pete logged on, his details are saved and voila, they have had full access to his account. I would say he's been hijacked, but its very likely that they have used his account to follow the threads. Pete has had alook, doesnt look like they have been posting anything or doing anything malicious, end of the day Petes the one who signed in on thier pc, the details are saved and all they had to do was re open the page and its straight in as them.

pete has reset his password, which should help. at least this may be some explanation as to how they were following the thread so easily, besides, im not saying they definately have, its just from what Pete has said, its very likely. As an example, Pete told me he went to visit the site one day without logging in, and he could see his user in the list of online members.

so, what Pete means is beware of the default "remember me" tick box when logging on in strange places..!!

Ahh so user error rather than being hacked :thumb2

They must have been laughing their tits off. Easy money and a chance to prepare the defence. ****ers.

sort of academic since this thread (and most of Briggies others) are in the Pub Thread which is visible to anyone who wants to look - its only the technical forums and so on that are Private until you pay your subs.

pete (briggie) at what point did you become aware of this ? leaving your account details on someone elses computer.

when did you start to suspect ?

absolutely no chance of chasing our money back from the garage. so really not impressed

and if you or anyone suspects something is amiss with there accounts , lets hope you contact either bat or a moderator as soon as you have a problem . then it can be rectified swiftly.

Didnt realise that :nenau lmao so they gained nothing by briggies cock up?

Anyhow, Bat (or admin?) can block them by ip addr and they wont be able to see a thing :D

Thats why you see the folks showing up in red who haven't paid a sub......

Oh you have to get up early to get round me!! :augie

And BTW, since most internet users are DHCP not static, blocking an IP address won't work. Its a commonly held myth on a large number of forums that "we can block you using your IP address so watch out!!!", or elsewhere that "we can find you!!"..... but sadly total bollocks. If you have their MAC address (which IS unique and static for any given PC device) its a possibility.

i became aware of this shortly after reading pauls post about his phone call ,up untill then i had assumed that my user was on the list as you said from the system updating , it was only when i thought about how it could be done i remembered i had logged on elsewhere so to speak .

Hmm....how come certain sites will not let you sign on even when you create a different account :nenau what is it they identify that barrs you

Cos they have errrr can , or so Ive been told :augie:augie:augie :sly

This is a useful and accurate site, especially if you want to try a proxy server. http://www.ip-adress.com/ . I'll admit Ive never monitored my ip address but I reckon from memory its always with in a certain limited range if not fairly static :nenau are there any records on your admin side Bat?

Youve set me off wondering about this now...............

surely the range of ip addr available within a given area will narrow it down to a certain defined area where the computer in question is operating out of? almost like a cascading or root type schematic

Looking in my belkin set up for the mac addr changer (which is there so thats proably no good to track someone down either ) theres a couple of pages that allow me to define either changing or fixed ip addr , however if its left to be able to change it does it within a limited range

I really dont know the answer, its something Ive never really bothered wondering about so long as I can connect :D:D:D

The IP address that is "seen" by hosts that you connect to is your WAN or Wide area network address, this will be within a certain range as these are allocated in blocks to ISP's.
The IP address you can change on your router is most likley the LAN address, they cant see this anyhow as it's on the other side of your router.

As for changing IP's, Virgin/cabletel etc. these guys will renew your IP with the same number almost every time, unless you leave your cable modem disconnected for an extended period, that way your "old" IP will get served up to someone else and you will get a new one....

BT ADSL services will pretty much give you a new IP evry time you re-boot your ADSL modem (often in the router).
So if you have BT type ADSL service just re boot the modem and you have a 99% chance of a new IP, with cable its a bit more tricky to achieve.

Thanks for that :thumb2

The practical answer is actualy somewhere in the middle, nice when no ones wrong :D

So as I'm on virgin I will stay pretty static. Thats how I would gues my "friend" :augie:augie was located and barred :D
