G’day all,
New here. I own a ’97 Terrano II 2.7TDi. Nissan Australia sold these here from ’97-’99, mine is a Nissan Australian Delivered vehicle not a grey import (there are grey imports down here too). The TII's didn’t sell too well here because of high pricing… and they looked a bit ‘ahead of their time’ (that’s a nice way of putting it). I am currently planning major work to the engine (re-ring) and steering and have joined up in the hope of gaining info to minimise the pain of these tasks and also help others with info for their vehicles.
My vehicle was originally bought for the business (quarries, minesites etc) but now it’s the family hack and used for holidays etc. It is not used for rockcrawling or seeing how stuck I can get for the sake of it, but more to tour into hard to access wilderness locations - hopefully without getting stuck. Below is a quick spec of where the truck is at…
As purchased:
Nissan Terrano II 2.7TDI Ti 1997 (Bought in 2002 at 160km now 290km).
With original: a/c, airbag, nudgebar(removed), towbar, h/light covers, bonnet protector, mats, dash protector, Ming paint/interior protection treatments. Also fitted with heavy duty torsion bars and heavy duty dampers.
Work since purchase:
Fitted ECB roobar.
Staun rust proofing treatment applied to undercarriage, in chassis etc.
Seatcovers.
Startermotor.
Waterpump.
New clutch hose.
Front suspension bushes.
Fitted BFG A/T 30x9.5x15.
New front brake pads and rear shoe re-line.
Complete fuel system overhaul.
Storage draw system and sleeping platform – designed, made and fitted.
Shade screens for rear windows.
Modifications to perform:
Bash plate – Modify to clear articulator and Extend to protect sump. Have purchased second bashplate to modifiy.
Swaybar articulator – Find best location and fit, then paint. Have purchased articulator.
CB radio – Wire in, cut console. Drill bulbar for aerial mount. Have second console, CB and antennae ready.
Cibie Oscars – Drill to mount and wire in with switch and relay. Have all parts, need to fit.
Flexible mudflaps – Find material, cut and fit. Just need to find good rubber.
Rear scrape bar – Fabricate and fit. Relocate numberplate mount? Remove towbar to fit. Have pipe and materials ready.
Snorkel – Use 98 Courier Snorkel. Maybe just extend inlet higher up into inner-guard with PVC pipe and fit prefilter and drain valve?
Fire extinguisher – Buy and fit.
Fit 2nd battery.
12v outlet – Fit to rear luggage area.
All these modifications have been put on hold while I sort out re-ringing the engine and formulate a solution for the dodgy steering (more on this later). Although the snorkel will be fitted ASAP when the engine is re-built.
