Hello all,
Still investigating my R3m and establishing the optimum running of it. Just to recap it's a 1993 terrano with TD 27 engine which has an air intercooler fitted to top of engine under a bonnet scoop. I am led to believe that this has been added as mod as this year was not fitted with an intercooler,but in investigating I have found 2 small hoses not connected from the EGRC solonoids A&B, The intercooler has a little spiggot coming from it which is blanked off using a cap and also within reach of the hoses are 2 open ended look like brake pipes, I i traced to top of gear box and other looks like it goes back to a little pot by the fuel tank. I found a vacuum hose diagram and it shows hoses to and from the solonoids A&B going to EGR Valve and also throttle control valve this is my problem is that my engine throttle control valve doesnt have a hose connector on it. So if anyone can help with some advice here I would be grateful. My questions would be;
Is the spiggot on the intercooler where you would connect the throttle control valve hose?
Where does the other hose go to? The diagram suggests the other hosing goes to vac pump, brake boost, egr valve, speed sensor and throttle control valve.
If the intercooler was added to standard turbo engine is it possible that these hoses were not connected because they are not needed? or because the fuel/emmission control is not compatible?
Lastly and hopefully not but is there a more sinister reason these hoses have been left unconnected? or just forgotten.
Sorry for long post but loving the terrano just want to get best out of engine and suffering from lack of a service manual for the TD27.
Many thanks

Some good photo's please.

The two hoses for the EGR valves are best left disconnected and plugged. You dont want EGR.

The throttle valve is there for two reasons; a) to assist the EGR at idle and low rpm speeds, and b) as a 'dozer' or anti-shudder valve at key-off. If it is hoooked up and working properly, then fine, if you are missing the solonoid control valve, then better to disconnect it and ensure the valve is rigged fully open at all times.

We can be more specific after you provide pics. How does it drive, what are the issues???

Is this the mechanical TD, electronic TD or TDi you have??

Hi timbo
thanks how do I post photo's please?
I believe it's just TD27 with the air intercooler added to it later, it's R3m import so no real helpful docs other than service manual in japanese.
Now the weird bit is I connected up the 2 loose hoses to the logical points given the length of them and don't know if it psychological but if feels like it pulls better.
The hose from the EGR valve to the solonoids ECRC A&B that I can see has always been connected, the other 2 are a mystery and have never been blanked off only the hose spiggot on the intercooler has been blanked. The 3rd in the solonoid bank is throttle control solonoid but no way of connecting a hose to throttle control valve body as no connector on the throttle valve body as indicated in a TD271 diagram. I guess what I'm up against here is uncovering whether it's the original engine or a replacement upgrade one or a mix of TD 27 and upgraded intercooler made to work on it.

Without seeing the motor, its almost impossible to tell what has been done to:

a) add the intercooler with regard to it now having the non-original throttle housing/ egr arrangement.

b) a replacement motor, which has or hasnt used some of the existing emissions controls.

It sounds to me as if *all* your vaccuum hoses will need checking systematically, and correctly hooking up.

A working EGR system will lower the amount of 'go' & responsiveness in the lower rev ranges for a set throttle opening, but should make no difference under higher loads where the EGR should be completely shut off.

Take photo's, then add them as attachments when you do a post.
