Morning all,
I'm after some recommendations.
I'm looking for a 4 door, 4x4, pickup. Basically a cheap knock about green laning truck. I was looking at a 90 Defender pickup for a while, but considering the price and that fact that one family member would be left out this is not really practical.
While I did like the form factror (small footprint) I realise that a slightly larger vehicle will fit the bill better.
If you have any recommendations on a double cab pickup, that actually can perform well as a 4x4 for some laning fun please let me know (don't forget pickups...)
Models I have been looking at are. Mitsusbishi L200, Nissan Navara, Toyota Hilux, Defender pickups....
Any advice welcome
Cheers
i know someone whos selling a ford bronco cos he cant afford to run it
but i like the look of the navara personally :thumb2

I'm not hundred percent sure which models are affected but there are some engine problems with the engines in some Navara's. So much so that Nissan extended the warranty to 5 years!!!!
It's a shame and I would love one my self when the time comes to change motor. I hope there's someone that can shed a little light on this problem for you.
Jim
PS if you don't need the pickup body Terrano's are spot on:thumbs

really really want a pickup as i have a "wagon" already
yeah and also read some nasty reports out engine probs - great shame
i'd say HiLux all the way, rock solid. my boss has one, its older than time itself and still going strong.

toyota hilux allday long for me!!!:) built too last trobuble is they do seem to hold their money!!! l200 NO I HAD A 07 PLATE 1 AND HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE!!! IN THE GARAGE MORE THAN I DROVE IT SOLD IT AFTER 2 MONTHS!!!! my nissan d21 pick up tho no trouble at all starts first time evey time:) had her 6 years now and no trouble at all:) only a leaky brake piston at tho mo tho not bad after 6 years tho:thumbs
The early D22 suffered from total engine failiure as the No 3 piston vacated the engine bay, the big end shells and bolts were not up to the job.A grommet between sump and oil pump lets in air causing micro- bubbles to form onthe big end bearings , all of this can be overcome and it does not happen to all engines. Mine been moded new bearings and bolts ,a machined "thing" to give a proper join between sump and pump plus new chains and guides ,clutch and other odds and sods and runs like new.
The D40 had half shaft troubles and clutch problems ,the177BHP being a little too much for it but again these have been sorted on recalls.
Out of the two i prefer the D22 ( i would i've got one). Look here for more info

Have the Mazda B2500 double cab pick-up (same as Ford Ranger). Can't really fault it yet. If you are only doing some green lanes it might serve you reasonably well. It has high ground clearance and LSD on rear axle and will take some fairly rough treatment. I have 2003 turbo diesel model and it runs very nicely (use it for commuting about 500 miles a week) and it is a bit lighter on diesel than my LWB T2 TDI. I have only had it about 8 months and done about 15,000 miles in it (about 96,000 k on the clock) and haven't had a problem with it.

Ditto with Daniel....if I went for a DC I'd definitely go for the Mazda, the whole brand actually has a bloody good reputation for quality and longevity....and with modern Hiluxes being made in Thailand these days, you've got to ask yerself....
