As it says, I've seen a pretty good deal with one and am wanting to know what they are like to live with. Wife says the following comments.
You'll not be able to use a small keypad?
You'll not be able to see a small display?
In all fairness she's got some valid points, I would hate to get one and be stuck with it for 18 months.

If you order any phone online or mail order, you have two weeks to send it back if it's not what you thought:sly
However on the touch screen front, have you got fat stumps for fingers?:augie
I went for a big screen

E63 isn't touch screen but instead has a qwerty keypad instead. Apparently the 14 days only counts if you haven't made or received a call, txt or owt else so how the hell you supposed to know if you like or not:doh
It has some nice features that I like but don't wanna be stuck with a lemon:doh
I'm too cautious

14 days thing :augie
I've used it many times with contract upgrades from other companies. Best check that.
Also have you been on a site called GSM ARENA ? Google it, they're an independant phone reviewer type "which" , ace for reviews and pros n cons etc.

Personally I'd get something with a touch screen - not the iPhone either, but anything with the bigger 3.5" screen.
The E63 looks to be identical in size to things like the Blackberry and HP iPaq, both of which are useless for anyone over about 17 years of age! LOL. The keys are t-i-n-y....
Seriously, I have an iPaq for my work phone (I happen to work for them) and my daughter has a Blackberry and I wouldn't give you tuppence for either of them - I leave the iPaq in the drawer and use on older Sony Ericsson w800i.
i'd go for the LG LG KP500 COOKIE, touch screen with a little pointer which pulls out if you have big fingers, east to use, im a phone dunce and i can use it ok. :thumbs
Hi Jim,
my boss has/had one, he didnt like it. The keys ARE small, but not bad to use if I am honest. As a phone, I dont rate it I am afraid, but only because its like any other nokia ever made, but not as reliable (boss had no end of trouble). I'd try and get a trial run first, or just get an iPhone!

NO NO NO dont go getting an iphone
unless you've got a mains plug to keep it in :augie
My brother in law got one and is embarrassed every time we have phone wars:lol
Get a Samsung 8910i if you want an iphone beater:sly

I've got the E71 and its the mutts bits.
The keyboard is a beauty to use.If my xl hands and chunky digits can text on it anyone can. I had a 6300 before (still have one from work) and I found them awful to text with so when I got the E71 I only had 100 texts on my plan, however its that easy to use for texts and emails I easily went over the 100 most months and had to up my plan to save money..........if a phone can get me texting and using it persuade me to pay out more thats got to be a decent recommendation :D:D:D
I can see the hi res (or whatever it is known as) no prob but specs are helpful for web browsing..........but thats my age.
My contract is up soon and I will almost defo be going for the E72, cant see any reason for not.
My missus has one of the highly rated windows phones (HTC HD2) and I find the E71 easier to use overall, I find the iphone an overpriced under performing toy (balanced on cost), the concept of the google phone is great but not the most sophisticated system but hey thats only one persons opinions and added to everyone elses thats what makes the world go round.
I know theyve got E63s & E71s in the shops now (we were in 3 and carphone warehouse in Durham today) I'd go play :D:thumb2
If you've got any specific questions about it fire away, I'm not the most sympathetic owner and I have farted around forcing it to run various progs........................and its survived :D:D:D
By the by, I'm no phone buff and I'm not sure where the E63 sits, is it a predecessor to the E71 just as the E71 is now to the E72  or is it a parallel range like a 6 and a 7 series for different tastes  I know mine was labelled as a "business phone" and the E63 is desc by Nokia as a multimedia phone
Confused, I bloody am

I'm not sure which aspect of reliability you mean, but.......
I update firmware/software as often as I'm aware of it published. I can say hand on heart that whilst mine has crashed several times it has always been directly attributable to what I've been up to, ie experimenting and forcing it to run various progs :augie:augie
On the point of physical reliability its a tough bugger. Mines been bounced and dunked many times. Chucked in the rucksack on a weekend and the briefcase without a trendy silicon skin or dead smart leather case during the week and its survived ( to date :D)
Maybe your boss was unlucky :nenau

Bloody hell, well anoraky.
I really couldnt be bothered to watch those reviews right through :surrender
Sorry nothing personal ;)
Mind you I seemed to pick up that the reviews were pretty positive? I reckon I can get the E72 without upping my contract and sell the E71 handset to cover a month or so's contract :naughty:naughty
One thing I forgot on the last post, my missus had a blackberry last time around, nice enough phone but a well quirky device, dont think I could live with it. It also crashed more often than a pissed up one legged blind driver in a toyota with the throttle jammed open & no brakes.

Hi DaveD, when yours crashed was it just a case of turn off and back on again or was it a bit more serious to put right?

Variable. But I stress, if I hadnt been farting about with it , it wouldnt have crashed. It was definitely my fault. I can say hand on heart it hasnt crashed when its just been in use day to day with no mods. All the nokias I have had have been 100% reliable. I currently have a 6300 from work. We're not allowed to fart about with them, not even allowed music ring tones etc. That has never crashed, its boring as :D but I suppose thats the point of it for when I'm on call ;)
Things I have done to the e71 ?............ I have a decent sat nav prog from an older version nokia and it just isnt meant for the e71. I needed to test that theory out myself :D:D:D
I also tried removing various programs so the already fast proccesor went that bit faster. Unfortunately the progs I removed werent even desirable, they were essential :D:D:D
Other times I loaded that many conflicting utilities they froze it.
Quite often when it froze it was just a reboot. Other times it was a restore but the nokia software you put on your pc syncs and backs up and restores to perfection. Never failed to get it running again very quickly.
I genuinely think its a brilliant phone and like I say , other than times when Ive though "oh shit why did I do that" its been 100% reliable.
lets be honest, youre talking to the person who dismantled his old nokia 3410i to see if it could be built into the dashboard of his mondeo ;)

Did you go for it Jim?
On a similar subject is anyone on virgin mobile? if so what are they like?
Just been chatting to them today and whilst they dont have the nokia e's in they do have the blackberrys and HTC's in at contract prices that'll frighten the competition :thumb2
Then on top of that if youre with virgin for other services they'll give you two months free.

Hi Dave, no I haven't jumped in and changed phone yet. Trouble is currently I have a 6230i for me and also the same model for work. I have the genuine Nokia Cradle Hands Free Kit for both cars which is so good, chargers them as well. If I change phone I'll have to start again with HF kit's and I insist on them for mine, I'll just ignore my work phone when driving.
Trouble is I get too much info which conhas confused me even more. At the mo my contract has been out of it's 18 month thing for about 18 months and the phone is gradually breaking down so I should do something. I've seen it on Three, people who dislike Three moan like buggery but people who are with Three love it to bits and don't have issues with it. It's the free skype bit that I'll find usefull.
http://threestore.three.co.uk/dealsummary.aspx?offercode=18UT20D127
Both my wife and one of my sons has Virgin Mobile and have found coverage quite poor in our area. This is not to say that it's poor where you live is it? it's just like the Three thing isn't it. They do offer some cracking deals tho.
Jim T
don't bother with the car kit i have a bluetooth sunvisor hands free thing: works aswell as my old hard wired kit. and can take it into the other car if driving that:D (and the pool cars @ work as i can't fathom the built in one:lol)
I have an E51 not very flashy but its provided by work, and it has been thro some situations!! and currently held together by blu-tac but still works fine, nokia generally well screwed together.

Jim, I know where youre coming from on that with chargers. I used to have a nokia 6300 of my own as well as the works one. I have my e71 plumbed in to the car for charging and hands free and all i do is set up the 6300 to divert to it so when I'm driving if they want me they can get me ;)...............if I want them to :augie
Brodit active holders are pretty good.

If I set my works phone up to divert to mine I get charged for the extra call. So for that reason when anything changes I won't be answering whilst in the car.
I would rather pay the money for the correct hands free kit and know that my vehicle's and family are all safe.

I can use the works phone for personal use too and get given the quarterly bill. However I would rather have my own and keep the two bills completely seperate. Also at 4 o'clock I can switch it off and nobody can pester me.

Had the E71 at work. Personally didn't care too much for it and the software used to hang on the main menu a lot of the time and had to turn it off and back on again to get it working properly again. Went back to a normal size slider phone as its easier carrying it around in the pocket. But to be fair I rarely used the additional bits going with the phone like the MS office software and the keyboard so I was better of with a normal phone.
