Hi All

Anyone know what Subaru mean by symmetrical AWD on their new forester and outback? Is it like a landie set up or what??

And anyone have any knowledge of their boxer deisels and reliability etc??

Just interested in this as a motor for wifey.

I have tried looking at their website and there is nothing about the awd other than its brill which really is blowing their own trumpet.

This sort of explains it and I think I get it, but its pretty academic I think.

http://www.drive.subaru.com/Win09/Win09_ItsWhatMakes.htm

The engine is unusually Subarus own isn't it, recent and built from scratch so no way to test reliability - but if its up to the usual Scooby standard then its bombproof at a guess.:thumbs

I have my eye on the Forester as a good long term all-rounder for daily use and ploughing up and down to Wales...... reliable, sporty, 4WD and 44mpg.....got to be a contender I'd say.:)

Not sure if it still has a low-range box though....

I like subarus :thumb2 was pleased to see a diesel introduced but on a road test (may have been top gear I'm not sure) it got a slating. Noisy and slow I seem to recall :(

Couple of neighbours have an older forester and a bloke few doors down swapped his ancient astra for a 59 plate one in black, looks pretty cool.

what Subaru mean by symmetrical AWD is that the torque is distributed as required, which give better handling, braking etc, and is ultra reliable, i dont think you will go wrong with a subaru. i dont know the full details about their awd but it must be online somewhere, forums etc. :thumb2

Think so. I've got a Honda HRV VTEC with similar setup, must say its a stonking little motor that sticks to the road like glue. No problems even in all that recent snow.

The engines aren't the best in diesel economics :nenau

Go old skool, no problems

Go new skool...disapointment...

whats the issue with the engine Adz? Most of the reviews I've read since have said thats the best bit, package wise, the rest of the car is just a pants not-very-well spec'd SUV..

I reckon the Honda CRV is the better buy these days.....

The engines ok but well behind where it & Subaru should be :(

As youve said, the CRV & X-Trail are better in my opinion :thumbs

I'd sort of agree but its the only diesel boxer engine so ought to give better handling with great economy, but they seem to have dropped a bollock on the first one by all accounts! LOL

They'll pull it back, every dog has its day :D

Shame the Impreza looks like an astra thats been hit hard with the ugly stick across its arse
