Hello All,
After a long time searching I have finally found some UK Patrol owners!!
Hopefully you guys can help me as I’m about at a dead end and need advice and moral support from fellow Nissan 4x4 owners. ( I paid the membership fee for this site, thought It was only fair!)

I bought a 2002 Y61 Nissan Patrol back in March 2009 and within a couple of weeks the 3.0ltr ZD30 engine self detonated and blew the pistons on cyls’s 3 and 4. Being a bit short on cash, I did a ring around and found a company (Jap Auto Parts) in Birmingham who agreed to supply me with a recon engine but would only guarantee it providing they fitted it. So £2250 and a LOT of driving later I had my patrol back with a recon block and head. There were bolts missing, wires not connected, no water in the radiator, a water and oil leak from somewhere… needless to say im not happy (don't ever use these people) Since, I have had NOTHING but problems with it…

A list of problems and my fixes

- Very low on power – so replaced air filter and air flow meter (plus a boost gauge)
- Low boost - was boosting well under 5psi on occasion then sometimes booted fine to 14-15psi
- Alternator Failed – replaced alternator, main drive belt

After all that (albeit, still with the minor but annoying oil and water leaks) I was towing one of my cars to North Birmingham and on the way back the alternator failed AGAIN. I got it recovered but it seems as if the car has wiped it’s Nats ECU and won’t recognise the keys – subsequently it won’t start. It’s throwing up 1401 & 1405 error codes (NATS)

So basically, loads of stuff just keeps going wrong with it and she’s been sat off the road for coming on 6 months now. I have just sent off for a replacement alternator, im going to re-bush the belt tensioner then I am going to HAVE to send it to Nissan to get the Nats ECU replaced and/or recoded to the keys so I can start it.

After that I want to sent it into a good, reliable garage that knows and understands the 3.0 ZD30 engine & the Y61 patrol to get it looked over and running right and properly.
Does anybody know anywhere that fits the bill?

At this point, im VERY willing to travel a distance if there is a highly recommended trusted specialist who can sort out my problems once and for all.

I really like the old girl, she’s a fantastic truck and I just want it right!

Many thanks

Chris

hi and welcome to the site i am also a new member but can vouch that its a tenner well spent.
sorry i cant help with your truck but someone should be along soon to help but if i were you i'd get back in touch with the cowboys who fitted the engine sounds like the engine they fitted was a lemon and badly fitted too if you have no joy threaten them with trading stadards maybe, how much garuntee did they give you with the engine?
hope you get it sorted,jonno.

Hi Jonno,
Unfortunatly too much time has passed now :( Trading standards rules state that after 3 months have passed the balls in my court to prove that the engine and fitting were faulty.

I work for a major motoring website, so im pretty well versed in this sort of stuff :(

9 times out of ten - unless your claiming for serious money (£5-6k +) it's just not worth the bother.

Have a look in the "Members Tips" section of this site at the thread titled Willow's Gold Dust good garage guide. Somem members give details there of garages they found good. Might be some help to you.

Hi mate,
Yep i had a good look through that. Im just not sure if any of them are real "Patrol Specialists" if such a thing exists.

I have always been a big Nissan boy you see. Built and Raced 200sx's/Skylines etc etc. In my younger days, something big that i didn't know how to do myself i would take it to a specialist etc.

I was wondering if there was anything similar for the Patrol community.

Thanks Dave,
I have dropped you a PM with my number also!
I usually do the majority of my own mechanics and have rebuilt several cars myself. However the patrol really has me beat :(

Well...
My new alternator arrived this morning and i have found a company called "Greenford Security" based in London who tell me that they can re-code nissan OBDII keys to the car (without having to take it to Nissan) they are also mobile so can come to you.

http://www.greenfordsecurity.co.uk/

Hopefully this will help people if they are ever in the same situation.

I bought by Alternator from "The Starter Motor and Alternator Company" in Plymouth last year. That's the one that failed. I finally got it off the car last weekend and set it off Tuesday afternoon. Yesterday a brand new unit arived as a straight replacment for no extra charge or cost.

Very impressed with the level of service. Lovely people and I couldn't recommend them more.

They also do 240v alternators :naughty
