ok you guys so who is driving the oldest t2 :augie
Mine is still going strong doing me proud 1995 2.7 td :)
Starts first time all through this cold snap digs its way around the land and on the road first class motor:thumbs
not me, 1998 lwb 2.7tdi, running really well now and it's beginning to grow on me now. being a landy lover. :doh:lol:thumb2

Well I had a 1965 land rover before this nissan and I have to say this a great improvement:lol:thumbs
heat and comfort in the winter and it starts first turn of the key:thumbs
it ploughs on no matter what and tows anything out of anywhere I ask it too:cool: my beat friend.
I do have a soft spot for landies but nissans are the best:thumbs
94 Mistral still going strong !, well up to yesterday ! had to get a jump start from wifes polo

Not me, mine's a '98 too...
And it ticks all the boxes for me, so will be staying for probably another three years or so before probably being replaced by a Pathfinder...
Mine's a 1995 (m) 1.7td
The Grim Reaper's is a 1994 (n) 2.7td

i htink the oldest i have ever seen is 1993, and that beleoned to Ian Douglas if i remember correctly, maybe we will have to get down to registration dates :thumbs

Whilst we are on the subject of oldies. I think that the older non intercooled diesel is far more reliable if not quite as nippy. To me it's more simpler and has not got the same electronic components to go wrong. What do others think?

i agree, just as they are older the age related issues creep in like rust!
and having driven both i find the older ones seem to have a bit more low end torque,

I have been told by a previous owner that it was a pre production model that was sent around various dealerships pre production.
can you remember my post on this truck having 2 Dipsticks the later one fitted because the original was a swine to get at.

If memory serves first production model in UK was June 1993.
I have been told by a previous owner that it was a pre production model that was sent around various dealerships pre production.
can you remember my post on this truck having 2 Dipsticks the later one fitted because the original was a swine to get at.

No Joking aside I think the td is the best for towing in mud snow and ice:thumbs
I am glad I saved mine with the help of this site:bow from the scrap yard:thumbs and no rust so far :thumbs and so warm :)

Ha ha you've got competition! Mines a 1993 too on a L plate and my daily driver (although plagued with a few minor issues...)

More oldies in daily use so who has the oldest I thought mine was the oldest t2 being used on the road every day but it seems not:bow

Hi Wendy, I actually think that although the TD has not got as much power as the TDI I think it is more reliable with less electronics to go wrong. That's not saying the TDI is particularly unreliable as we know but I feel things are better kept simple.

Well if we start a thread on who has had their vehicle the longest, then I might win this one, 14 years, and as per Jim's comment, I think that the 2.7TD has had less problems, by comparing all the threads.
My policy for keeping the vehicle is... "If it ain't broke, Don't fix it"
Better the devil you know and all that.
Mind you with only 87k miles on the clock it is just about run in now. High mileage in fair weather, is done in the wife's car though, 1/2 the fuel of the maverick.
The maverick is still used every day, wax-oyled from day 1 and kept in a warm garage. Can't wait for the thaw, so I can hose off the underside and top up the wax-oyl, so here's to the next 87k miles..
All problems/ service items so far in 14 years.
1 rear wheel bearing/seal replaced,
New exhaust x2 (front part only 1)
New battery x 2
New brake disks and 3 sets of pads
Front anti roll bar drop links x 2 sets
Automatic aerial inner cable broke (disconnected and not replaced)
Light behind digital clock still faulty, waiting for another bulb failure before replacing this one.
A few bulbs, oh and an electric drivers door mirror (ouch) after a brief encounter with a transit truck with extended mirrors. He didn't stop by the way, so this was probably the most expensive item so far.
Plus normal oils filters etc + 4 cans of waxoyl !
Beat that for 2.7TD reliability.... I rest my case..

Even my local garage who do the mots for me for turkeys and eggs agree:lol
No really he was asking me where to get an old t2 he said in his words
Built like a tank very good ground clearance and uncomplicated to work on
not like the new ones:thumbs and my t2 has no rust:eek::thumbs
I have to say looking at some of the new 4x4s :eek: no ground clearance at all:eek:

So true! And not even the brand new ones...
I had a Daihatsu Fourtrak Independant which was atrotious for ground clearance. Even when I lifted it 2.5" it still bottomed out a lot whilst playing. My Maverick has about the same clearance in the middle without a lift... :D
