Hello everyone hoping to be a newbie from rotherham.

I`ve just found the site whilst googling info for the 98 onwards diesel nissan patrol.

reason is i`m Looking to buy a proper off roader just had normal road cars the only exception was a landy freelander need an off roader to access the horses stacys just bought when it gets abit rough and just incase this weather is common placed.

has im relatively new to proper off roaders what do i need to look out for on a 98 onwards patrol.

any reliabilty issues, common faults, niggles, recalls etc on the other side if the coin whats the best spec to buy for some comforts.

previous cars vw,audi, toyota, hyundai which had common niggles so i don`t mind with the landy don`t ask.

has a newbie are the engines chain driven or belt driven.

if its belt driven is this a belt change only or is a timing belt full kit required inc tensioner etc.

erm anything else i`ve might have missed cheers
thank you

We don't have newbies, its in at the deep end LOL.

The Trollers will be out of their caves soon, but like the T2, the Patrol is pretty robust. I think cams are chain driven (direct gear driven on the T2) and the 3.0 engine was wont to throw a piston occasionally but that was fixed by the time they put it into the T2 around 2002.

In fact unless you aspire to the extra goodies and poorer fuel consumption of the Troll, the 3.0 T2 is a good compromise....most of the capability and a lot easier to handle because of its profile, pus the 3.0 gives you upwards of 32mpg against 23-25 for the 2.7TDi and a lot of towing capacity.

And by the way, we always say this, but it WILL be the best value tenner you ever spend.:thumbs
