i found it in the daily express, 2.5% tomorrow night, :doh

from the express

PETROL prices could soar by up to 10p a litre thanks to a string of tax rises, drivers were warned today.

Unleaded could even rocket to a record high of £1.25 a litre if crude oil costs rise over the coming year.

The price surge is set to start on New Year’s Day when VAT returns to 17.5 per cent, triggering a 2.4p-a-litre rise in petrol costs. More increases in fuel duty will kick in later in 2010.

they even mention VAT possibly rising to 20%

from the express

Tesco, the UK’s biggest retailer, has pledged to freeze VAT at 15 per cent on thousands of products after January 1 but will add the higher tax rate straight on to its petrol prices.

The average price of unleaded fuel yesterday was 107.66p a litre, compared with 87.85p this time last year. Diesel was 109.30p a litre, up from 99.52p a litre a year ago.

RMI Petrol, which represents two thirds of the UK’s 9,000 forecourts, predicts pump prices could soar 5p a litre by April and by 10p a litre by the end of 2010 because of various tax hikes.

Its chairman Brian Madderson warned that petrol costs could rise even more sharply if the price of crude oil soars.

He said: “The predicted 10p per litre rise does not take into consideration any increase in the world oil price which could add another 3p to 5p per litre to forecourt inflation. We might well see pump prices in the second half of 2010 in the range 120p to 125p per litre.”

The Government will add another 1p a litre plus inflation to fuel duty in April and at the same time withdraw a duty incentive it currently gives refiners for producing biofuel.

Another feared hike in VAT to 20 per cent combined with a possible 2p a litre fuel duty hike in late 2010 would slap another 5p a litre to pump prices.

AA spokesman Mr Bosdet claimed drivers had already got a raw deal from the Government when it reduced VAT to 15 per cent in November 2008 because the Chancellor increased fuel duty by 2p at the same time.

He urged drivers to write to their MPs demanding action on the soaring cost of fuel.

Yep I know Bio is about the same price. I am looking at puting in a plant to make it as we also have some diesel trucks. Worked out that you can make diesel for about 45p per ltr...........and I'm talking diesel not recycled vegi oil.
A small plant complete with dryers works out about £1000 - £1200 But havent made my mind up yet. May just go for putting 'ole fasioned comercial petrol engines in and running on LPG

Yes it is an AS. A 1954 Flying Cloud to be precise. It's what I do. I restore vintage trailer caravans and specialise in American ones including airstreams, Silverstreak, Spartans etc.

Take a look at the website. www.vatco.eu

Yep this will be the year when I go bust. Just been talking to wife and she says it would of been nice to of had a day out over this holiday but with the car costing so much there's no chance. I've simply said that if the fuel goes up like expected we wont be going anywhere this year. It'll be interesting to see if the authorities publish figures to show that fuel costs have effected UK tourist spots.
Is there a hidden agenda to the fuel costs? is it going green by the back door? or are we simply paying for others mistakes?

Looks like it'll be yet another year my kids will miss out on a family holiday, thanks Gordon.

Trouble is there's no viable alternative when we go to vote because all the parties will pretty much do the same, tax the shirts off our backs because they can.

Rant Over (for now)
Jim T

PS looking back on a crap 2009 and looking forward to an even worse 2010!!!

My son is visiting me from London, he has a Chevy Astro day van 4.5 litre but converted for lpg. We don't have a gas filling station in our town, but yesterday as I knew the fuel tax was going up at midnight we went out to fill our vehicles. I took him to the local Calor gas agents
and found they had a lpg pump so he filled up at..... 45 pence/litre... normally pays up to 60p
in the London area. bri

Happy New Year everyone !
Mine started with a mistaken shot (3 ltrs) of petrol into diesel T2 :doh Filled up with diesel so I reckoned on 3 ltrs petrol / 75 ltrs -ish of diesel. Won't repeat what I said to myself :augie. Decided to take a chance and forgo all the costs of draindown etc. Have done 150miles since and all SEEMS well.::nenau Fingers crossed. Still hoping to not hear any funny noises:o.

I ; like many others; always mention "the government" when it comes to our financial distresses. The government is really a fair proportion of US , the public.
We all know that the real cause of our woes is the so-called wizzards of commerce- the fat-cat experts who live off the cream of large chunks of our taxes and savings. If I had dropped as many clangers during my working life as they have done in theirs, I would still be inside on multiple manslaughter charges.

The leaders of the money making institutions seem to have the government (and that is US of course) by the short and curlies.

If there is a life hereafter, I shall come back as an accountant and work up to a dictatorial fat-cat.;) Can't loose can they ?

Moan over-----feeling better now.:)
