View Full Version : First time out in the Terrano
Well, took the Terrano off road for the first time on Saturday.
Went with a coil sprung SWB 90 and a LWB V8 LR - both modified.
Managed everything they did and didn't get stuck once!
They (and myself!) were very impressed with the Nissan - especially considering it is on ATs and theirs were on aggresive MTs - and we were in a lot of mud and slippy grass.
Just need a larger set of MTs now to give a bit or groud clearnace under the diffs and I'll be sorted :-)
Very pleased with the performance as standard though.
No pics unfortunately as it was too cold to get out!
Its amazing how well they cope innit. I had mine offroad a couple of weeks ago for the first time and how it managed to drive in places that I struggled to walk on is unbelievable.
I'd rather have a broken down Nissan than a Land Rover :?
They will do anything and more and its great seeing there faces when you do it  especially when it involves water and the LR getting flooded.
most of the LR owners are snobs, well they think they are -rotfl-
wonder why the UN use nissan and not land rover
just shame people dont do more toys for em beuty of landy is no matter what you what for the hatefull things twenty people make it lol

exactly what i thinking.
trying to fit somehwere to be able to use a hi lift, bolting on extra recover points etc all easy for a LR or Suzuki for that matter.
Maybe we've found a niche market...now where did that welder go...
Only thing I found the Terrano struggled on was ground clearance (didnt get stuck but could hear it rubbing the ground). Larger tyres and LWB springs on the back should do the trick :-)

Have you checked that your front suspension is set at the right height? Mine had settled 40mm, made a big difference to ground clearance - well 40mm obviously but seemed like more.
yeah thats one thing that I need to do, it has definitely settled down.
Just trying to find the measurements from somewhere so I know how much to wind it up
(its an X plate SWB Terrano Van)
Any clues?
Cheers
Ill keep an eye on this one didnt know you could wind them up??
I contacted formula4 to get some bigger wheels/tyres.....they wont sell me any other than the original size :(
However contacted L.A supertrux and they will sell me 15" or 16" wheel with any tyre upto 31".
Didnt the newer terranos have 16's what tyres were they??

I think the last of the T2's (mk4) were fitted with 17" alloys 8O I know HB has 30"'s on his & a member from Iceland has 31" on his T2 with a slight mod to the front bumper & front mud flaps

Sharkie and quite a few others have got 31s on IIRC you need to trim the bumper a tad but thats all.

Try Sowden tyres - google em. They do wheel/tyre packages - they're proper 4x4 specialist tyre suppliers, don't do anything else just tyres, good advice and good prices.

I emailed them. They said.....
"The quote is for the insa turbo Sahara tyre only as they is no after market wheels for a ford.
You are looking at £250 all in."
No after market wheels??

I've ben in touch with Mark Sowden and apparently the problem is tht it was Colway who were supplying the Jap 6 stud fitment 8 spoke wheels and as we know they've gone bust.

The Mk3 Terrano's (99-2001ish) had 16's, fitted with 235/70 R16's, I think the later Mk 4 Terrano's had 17's with 235/65 R17's but could be wrong about the width & profile.
Might be worth buying a LR mag and seeing what some of the specilaist tyre retailers can do. One reason that Formula couldn't provide a bigger tyre may be down to the rims you wanted to fit them on, if by bigger you mean wider & deeper profile, then you would need possibly wider rims as well.
