View Full Version : I hate PayPal
I'm mightily pee'd off right now thanks to wonderful paypal
My R3M failed its mot and needs 2 suspension arms which after a couple of days searching I couldn't find any in the uk and the quickest anyone could get them was 10 working days from Japan so I searched on the net using the nissan part number.
To my joy I found them on ebay in the states for about the same money including the ball joints and post with a 4-5 day delivery time which I was so ecstatic with I ordered instantly on the 8/11. I contacted the seller on the 11/11 to check all was ok to be told the money was in his paypal but uncleared so he was waiting for it to clear. On the 12/11 the money came out of my bank account so I thought everything was good but it still hasn't cleared in paypal and they reckon it'll be the 19/11 before it does.
I've sent numerous emails to paypal and been sent infomails about 'how to use paypal' and nothing else beyond the fact it'll be clear by 19/11 which is a tad annoying as I've booked next week off work to sort the arms and cv boot out but it now looks like I wont have the arms in time.
Anyway sorry for the rant but I thought as a verified user with a traders account, a maestro card and a visa card on file they'd of been a bit more helpful but they dont seem to give a rats butt.

If you make sure your paypal payment is being funded through a card or you have paypal balance, it is much quicker, I think if it is comming from your bank it is in the form of a paypal cheque and therefore needs clearance.
I agree they are exspensive but there aint a lot of choice and posting a UK cheque to the US wouldnt be any cheaper and no quicker i wouldnt have thought.
I do use paypal but only for small things as the fees are crazy I once sold a caravan on ebay and accepted paypal payment, I wont make that mistake again, that one sale (including ebay fees) cost more than their cut of this sites membership fees for a year :!:
ebay own paypal youd think theyd let any ebay sales go for free seing as youve payed ebay twice already to list stuff and final value fee then you get caught by paypal cheeky grunts!
Yes it sounds like you've paid via e-cheque. Thats happened to a few people I know. Better setting it up to pay by card or straight from your bank. Doing it that way the seller gets the money before it comes out you account and things get posted straight away.
You won't be able to change your payment method until you try to pay will paypal again.
i paid tbr by paypal just added what theyd lose in fees, anyway paypal payed them but didnt take money outve my acount for another 3 weeks if i have been more dishonest id set up few paypal acounts an have few scams like that

I think the e cheque thing kicks in when you ar getting close to the expiry datae of your registered card, so even if you have a card you use with them it can still catch you out.
paypal used to be a seperate company from ebay and ebay bough them out!
I can see a day when ebay is a company up there with microsoft and walmart one of the biggest on the planet, if its not allready!
I wish i had thought of it

I'm talking about people who've just signed up to ebay.
Looks like when you now join it defaults to e-cheque???
thats whats happened to 2 people I know. I didn't need to change the way I set up paypal??????? no e-cheque crap when I signed up

gego, thats what happened to me when my card was close to its expiry date, they are cautios to make sure it alll clears withtin a month of the end of your card to make sure it is on the next bill i think!
I have only had it happen once and i have been signed up to ebay and paypal for over 5 years, i didnt know until they sent me a 5th birthday card not long ago!
I'm glad I'm not alone with paypal aggro.
I eventually got through on the phone to be told that the primary card had been messed up and they would sort it but they couldnt guarantee if the payment would ever clear lol. They instructed me to get the seller to cancel the payment and repay him which I did and the 2nd payment went straight through, unfortunately I've logged on this morning and the first payment has now gone through as well so I'm relying on the chap in the US to return my £144 and not send me two sets of arms and balljoints
To look on the bright side I should get my bits this week to get the car sorted while I'm off work but I'll have to pay for another mot which is a bit of a bummer but thats life.

if you explain to the garage they might let you off the retest fee as to a degree the fees are still at their discretion, its worht a try! they might hate paypal too
I know the bloke doing the mot and he reckons he'll be able to sort it but if its gonna cause him grief with his boss I'll pay again as he's a mate and it's always handy to keep a good mechanic sweet.

I know what you mean! my son in law does my mot's etc, so i have a head start on that one
I just thought I'd update this with my good news, it passed its mot yesterday -groovy- so it might have been a painful process but I got there in the end.
If anyone with a similar R3M needs the part number for a cv boot or steering rack gaiters that you can buy off the shelf in the uk I've kept a record of them, the steering rack gaiter actually matched up to a mondeo part in the end. I've kept the old arm as apart from the bushes there still in good condition and there's a place in the states that sells the poly bushes for them so forward planning etc lol.
