View Full Version : Well... I bought it :-)
I am now the proud owner of a 1997 Maveric TDi GLS :thumb2
Drove it home from Bath to Bournemouth and I absolutely love it. We've already picked up two huge bags of bedding for Finley - we could have gotten 6 in the back with the rear two seats folded, easily.
Everything works perfectly... the only thing I need to do is replace one of the centre air vents as it is broken. No biggy - I will find one on ebay (or on here) easy enough.
Going to clean it and polish it up this weekend (and get out the linseed oil) then I will take some pictures and show you all.
Thank you for all your advice and help - I am sure I will enjoy my time here.
My wife just drove it back from the shops and now she wants one too :doh

Well done that man.....just expect a few niggles to crop up initially, they always do! But plenty of help here.
Will pay you to do a few simple things, especially changing rear diff oil as it rarely gets touched and can cause a few odd symptoms...the correct oils are all documented on here or you can just ask.:thumbs
Yeah, I was going to change all the oils and filters as a matter of course. I always do with a new vehicle.
I also have the steering wheel from my old Nissan 200SX. It has an SRS airbag and being Nissan will probably fit OK. The rubber wheel on there at the moment is a bit naff. My 200SX one is virtually brand new and is leather. Should smarten up the interior a treat.
(I know how to do this safely, and have done this before)

why not use a trailer.. save humping it that high :nenau
nice one Mr.!
I too have a 97 2.7 gls. I love it too but yes, as others have said, soem niggles did crop up. And thats what they are, niggles. Mine are:
odd idling sometimes-revs jump up a bit then settle after a second or two.
engine managment light comes on randomly.
passenger air vent is broke
and...oh yes, the ignition switch is dodgy but I hav a new part for that.
thats it!
so i think all i need to do is adjust the idle and give it a service. other than that its fine. I love it.

WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE T2!!!
Not wanting to teach my grandma to suck eggs :augie but this weekend I would...
1) Change to air filter (use a genuine Nissan one... Ive had problems with micky mouse ones!)
2) Change the fuel filter
3) Drain of and replace engine oil.... replace oil filter (bit of a pain to get to, but 'do-able')
4) Jack up all four wheels, and spin to check bearings/any play, whilst their have a quick look at your shocks and anti-roll bars, condition of tyres
5) Grease up your bump stops (details on here)
6) Take your wheels of and check your brake pads / disc's/shoes
7) Grease all your hinges on doors etc
8) Have a good noisey about underneath to check for any oil/diesel leaks etc (after this I generally get my old oil and spray the underneath all over with it!)
9) Whilst underneath give your exhaust a good looking at... check brackets/condition
10) Have a good look/fumble at your prop shafts
11) Change your rear LSD oils - will feel like a new motor after that!
12) Buy yourself a decent tow rope to leave in the boot, jump leads, box of spare fuses... all come in handy at some point!
13) Give it a damn good clean, jetwash all outside, inside wheel arches, vac etc
14) Polish, polish, polish - inc all insides of doors, door edges etc with something decent like 'Mer' polish
15) Buy a nice air freshner! :lol
Then take a picture.... cause it'll never look that clean again!!!! :doh
One more of us !!! one less of them!!! :clap:clap
Enjoy:thumb2
