Well how spooky is that? Extreme will confirm that when he passed through on Monday we were talking with my neighbour, a retired petroleum chemist from the Esso Research Centre that used to be near me.
He was explaining how a measure of approx 150-200mm methanol, mixed with 10% water, dobbed in your tank at fillup time would be even better than acetone.:thumbs
Clearly won't provide the returns this kit gives, since it wouldn't have the intercooler cooling effect, but cheap as chips (and cheaper even than acetone), since common-or-garden meths will do the job apparently......:doh
But be aware, try this at home at your own risk - don't blame me if your little puffing billy steam engine on a stand hasn't got fuel any more (yes I'm talking to you Mr Sad!).:doh

I've just re done the math on the T2 intercooler, mass of air movement for 3200 rpm, (estimated), The HHO system cannot produce enough, I'd need around 5 to 7 litres a minute depending on RPM/load.
I'm happy that the general principle works, I can power a 2.8kva generator off HHO, a 12vdc battery and solar panel, or AC powered battery charger... it's not perpetual motion by the way......... The current required to generate 2L/minute is still too high but I can get that down using a different cell construction and plate/cell ratio.
The math and chemistry tells me that it'll power a naturally aspirated engine as well, up to 2.5l, at least my old BMC at any rate, that's only 70hp on a really good day..... doesn't rev much past 2800. So that's my next test...... now, how far do I have to motor to prove the concept works, or not

Had quite a lot to do with methanol producers at one time and another.
I'm sure its great stuff in the engine but storage and transportation hazards of the stronger brew in usable quantities for private individuals..................no ta ............I'll stick to hi clones and k&n

Re methanol Dave, how much more volatile is it than Acetone then? My chemist neighbour is saying that common meths is perfectly acceptable and thats hardly explosive is it? But didn't ask him how much different to pure Methanol it is....

The honest answer is i dont know. Physics was my science I bombed big time with chemistry :lol
Meths and acetone do have their hazards but we only have them at home in small quantities. In laymans terms methanol is more dangerous and for use in a car I presume held at home in larger quantities.
Believe it or not I was actually at a methanol seminar/training day a year or so ago and it was very very interesting.
One thing I took away as well as pens and a dvd was a memory of how volatile it can be.

I believe they do work and work well. Jocky will tell you his account of using them. I can tell you that emmisons dropped on mine when I put them in (better burn) and I can genuinely put myself in the 30mpg for day to day driving club.
